What is email marketing? How does it work?
Answers: email marketing is also known as SPAM. It is when someone trying to sell you something, send their ad to you via email. 80% of these companies/people will buy email lists and just mass email. The remaining 20% will get your email by you signing up for something, thus, giving them permission to send email to you. These companies use newsletters, give aways and other ploys to identify you as someone who may be interested in their product, and will send you their ads. A lot of these companies will also sell your email address to other companies wanting to sell to like interests. A third way they get your information is by placing tracking cookies on you browser when you visit their web pages. These cookies will track the sites you visit the most, and build a marketing profile based on your browsing habits, and then target ads based on your profile and interests. Have you ever wondered why all of a sudden you get emails from sites having to do with a product you recently viewed online? IE. you go to Yahoo Autos and look at cars. In the next few days, you get emails from local car dealers advertising their online auto sales. You can be assured, these ads came from tracking cookies set by Yahoo. After all, that is the reason Yahoo services are free to the public.
you will never be able to get rid of all these ads, but there are things you can do. Turning off cookies, although it will prevent tracking cookies from tracking, also make it difficult to navigate the web as lots of other, ligitimate, cookies are used. I set my browser to clear cookies whenever I close my browser. This at least disrupts a full profile of my browsing. I also use a email application that lets me filter all email from addresses not in my address book, directly to my Junk folder. I do have to go through this folder daily to make sure I get the legitimate emails. I have added these to my address book and after about 6 months, the number of good email directed to junk have shrunk to just a couple a week. But it does help. Another thing is when you subscribe to a news letter, or BLOG, or other web service, be sure to check the "privacy" notice, and at least be aware if they will sell or otherwise use your email address for anything other than what you have subscribed to.
Email marketing consist of compiling email addresses and sending out mass emailing on a daily bases. The emailing will contain different content daily.
