What is a good Marketing strategy for a small local junk hauling business?
Answers: Low cost and easy distribution:
Have a bunch of sticky note pads made up with your company name, website and phone number and start putting them all over the place potential consumers gather. Go door to door and put one on every door. put them on public trash bins, bus shelters, newspaper boxes (better idea, and you didnt hear it from me - buy one newspaper and open the box, then put the sticky note on a bunch of the papers in the box), put them on the dirver's side windows of cars.
This is really cheap, uses your time and creativity on where to put the notes, but be sure not to piss anyone off too much.

Residential or Commercial?
Res-
Door hangers and the Internet.
If you're small and local you'll want to get in the face of the people in your area. Door hangers are one of the only forms of marketing I can think of that work well for that.
Plan on doing it at least 2x per month.
Internet: create a blog and optimize it for local traffic. to do that you'll have to run some G00GLE Adwords. By doing that you'll find out what and how people are looking for you.
Never: optimize for your business name. They're looking for the idea of you... not you. (yet)
Commercial - get in good with the builders.
Create a before/after 1 page sell sheet and just hand it to them. Follow up. It's a long, painful road, but you will get there if you're an animal about it.
I would say hands down, TheLocal Index.com.its easy and free! you could advertise to millions of local people who need your services.
its not like citysearch and other sites cuz you could post pics or your services, hours of services and stuff!
hey your could be the next big GotJunk billiondollar biz!
tell ppl when your up and your could start a chain of buzz like they did!
good luck!
