well i guess you should also try to make it chic or depending on the social class of your business. try to make it very attractive that if you are the customer you would go to that product at just one glance of your logo because you are really seduced by the logo and the logo is all that the company is.
Actually, I find main stream logo design companies to be a "complete" rip off. You can find indepentant and freelance logo\graphics designers for a "fraction" of the cost a main stream company would charge you, and have a much faster turn around time.
