Is there any way to make money doing surveys online or are the ads just a gimmick?

Answers: Some sites are scams, but others are legit. I am part of cash crate, and i am very happy with them. It is very easy to use and its free to join (so there is nothing to lose). You should check it out!
You can make money at it but for the time you invest into it, it is just not worth it. I did it for about 3 months and made $27 thats it. You might want to start an internet business if you are looking to make money online. If you go to http://www.firstinforeview.com they will tell you everything you need to do to get your own website up and running in no time and they don't charge you anything for this information so you know it's not a scam or gimmick.
Good Luck
I agree with lucee :
Although you can make a little money
taking surveys you will not make very
much and it will eat up a lot of your time

There are better ways of making money online

Good Luck
It depends which ads you are reading. You can get paid by reputable, free-to-join survey sites, but you won't get rich. The most I've made in a month is around $200 when combining the sites that I use and putting in a decent amount of effort. Just be sure to avoid paying to join a survey page, the ones that charge you are a scam.

I've reviewed and listed the pages I've had the best luck with on my blog:

Answers: i enjoy dealt next to a lot of it recruiters, both as a hiring bureaucrat and a candidate

your brief is to do the grunt work more effectively then anyone else.

so that mechanism you must know the ins and outs of the field you are working within, or at least know how to fake it.

primarily, if you can send the being who is perfect for the post, and manage the negotiation process adjectives the way through, tghen you will get hold of paid eventually.

if you jsut want to throw resumes against the wall and hope something sticks, you are doing neither the hiring agent nor the hopeful any favors.

i suggest specializing in somethign approach more specific then "IT" - i.e. basically every opportunity in Silcion Valley for example, and to be precise not specialized at all.

Maybe you can do project manager, game programmers, collateral appliance service qa engineers, or at a level resembling that.

you might or might not want to specialize in a geographic nouns. that way, you can come upon the hiring managers surrounded by person at professional events instead of cold calling them (which is potential to get you no where).

later you will be very interesting to hiring manager and candidates alike as a matchmaker and you will stand out from the others.

also remember, unsolicited resumes will NEVER acquire you paid, so spawn sure you have a signed agreement next to the company (usually the hiring manager is not qualified to take home the agreement) before providing any resumes
