Is mediocrity desirable? I'm an award-winning graphic artist and copywriter next to tons of experience and a track record of nouns. We do that because its cheaper. If I get a GA that starts asking for too much money its easier to simply hire someone full time or find a latest one. I'd do that anyway because nobody can continue to be creative forever. You other need fresh concept after a while.
Finally. You are no longer competing for a job locally anymore. I spoke to companies contained by the far east and England from Alaska to Florida. Everything is moved electronically. Nobody slaps lead and prints anymore. I can clear a LD call anywhere for subsequent to nothing and move files faster than booting my computer.
As far as agencies dance, I worked in several, and we don't remuneration big money for your work, profits are far too slim to afford that. We used people that would do a post well plenty that allowed us to do a large mark-up. Clients are stupid they can't report to what a good public notice is. Geesh look at those horrid SW Airlines ads more or less prod enhancement. You don't even know they are discussion about SW until the final 2 seconds when the flash the website address. Or the stupid classified ad with the animated fox discussion about investing your money next to that company.. a TALKING FOX.. give me a break, I couldn't dawdle to get to my phone. Agency's are adjectives about margins and making money. Expensive GA's don't assist the bottom line.
Read this far? Good. Now subsequent week get in position to start making phone calls and doing some drop-bys within the various agency's around town... next to your portfolio. Don't do it at 11. Be there first piece in the morning bang doors. Have your portfolio and resume in mitt. Several. Put them on a CD next to a nicely designed cover really showing your work. Have a business card next to a phone number that is other answered.. at least next to an answering machine.
Be prepared to cool your heels within the waiting room for someone to see you. Have a plan when you get within front of someone. Nobody cares going on for some award.. I want to see the work and I want to know prices. Don't complain about anything because I don't thinking and neither do they.
Now get up and do something in the order of what you want.
They ASSUME that the young associates are more in tune next to what consumers want. The problem is: When you overspecialize, you breed a weakness. When they hire too heaps young nation with talent but no experience, head will butt because they all surmise they deserve something that they haven't earned - respect.
In add-on, when everyone is young, how will they take to mean a different demographic? When there's time for a product campaign that involves single mothers or retired relations, they wont be able to produce. Well the company wont come clean its mistake and hire you, they are going to blame the new associates (last hired is the first fired, right?) and cut them. Then they are going to hire some other cookie cutter college kid; wash, rinse, repeat. Sadly, you still don't own a job.
