Why are watches adjusted to ten past ten in any advertisement?
Answers: Many years ago they were set at 12.00 o'clock but someone realised that ten minutes to ten looks like a smiling face and thus more customer friendly. Watches and clocks for sale have been so set ever since.
The symmetry of the hands of the watchface makes for a subconciously pleasing effect.
Also when many watches are displayed they are all at the same time to look neat and uniform. So it's become an industry standard.
What country are you in? Here the watches are just all over the place.
But, 10 past 10 looks good on a watch! Yeah, it looks very good at that position.
You are very observant and this is very true. I used to have a friend that worked as photo assistant for May Co and that is exactly how they placed the arms of the watches at ten past ten for the ads. I don't have the exact answer, only that someone in advertising determined that the position of the hands of the watch or clock look the best for sales in that mode.
