It's a lot of hard work and it doesn't pay off at first, so be sure that you have a steady income before you start trying to make money online. However, the benefits are exponential, sod on't give up now. Take initiative, and in your spare time you can do a few things.
Get a web site.
If you build it, you can send people there and they can learn more about your company and will hopefully become interested in buying one of you products or services.
Put up juicy content.

One thing that truly effects your search engine listings is the amount of backlinks you have and the quality thereof. You want pages of similar content to be linking to your website. All you do is go to your favorite search engine in type in link:www.competitorsdomain.com and see what sites are linking to theirs.
Request a link from your competitor.
This is the most honest free sales tactic. All you have to do is see if your competitors have link pages and request a link from their site. You may even want to bribe them with a free eBook or some ghost writing articles.
Get a blog.
Blogs create new content (search engines love those) and new pages. Every blog post is a new page that can link to your home page!
Submit your blog posts as articles to article directories.
There are a number of article directories out there that host articles for people's ezines and blogs. You put up your content, people take it and put it up on their site. If there is a little "about the author" or "resource box" section, then they HAVE TO add that by copyright laws. And presto! You have yourself new backlinks from people you never had to even meet.

I think its Johnson & Johnson. Back when I used to work for them their marketing strategy to grow kid products was to start target adult women as users. They required to do this with the babe products, but then they fixed to launch an adult-specific line (Softlotion and Softwash).
