One of my favorites was other the blindfolded taste experiment Coke and Pepsi would perform. Not so much "out of the box" but simple and worked capably. Another idea ive see is people set up a buried treasure type of scenario, make it a interactive challenge and logically the product is the reward.

Everything on the internet is protected under copyright law. It may not be Registered with the copyright organization but it is still protected.
To be legal, if your domain pet name is available no one else have rights to it. Only put information on your site that you wrote or paid someone to write or you own expressed permission to use.
Make sure that your site have well written "language of use and service" and "privacy policy" information.
Claim all income you craft from your site and Uncle Sam will leave you alone.

The trouble lies in enforce it.
One thing you might do is what writers do near their for-print work... when you put a major current writing on your website, print it out and mail a certified, registered copy to yourself. That track, if it's ever an issue, you have physical, hermetic proof that you had it first.
Another article... just for the sake of completeness, put a copyright concentration in the footer of adjectives your web page (if you're using a content management system, you can set that up once and it will automatically display on adjectives pages).
