I don't know if this applies to you, but presuming you are a student or recent graduate, I would speak:
"I am a student at XXX University, and I am a major within marketing/advertising. I am looking for an internship. Does your company hire interns?"
This sounds pretty stupid and basic, but trust me, it beat all the indirect approaches I've see. If you get a "no" answer, you've frivolous only a few moments. If you win a "yes" answer, then be prepared to explain why you are the best intern they've ever considered hiring.
