I recieved a flyer from Kensington Assistance Agency, saying that could aid me get a compromise from the federal government; when I give them $299.00. I told them to take in attendance fee out of the compromise money...they told me when I could SEND them the money...call them final...otherwise , there be nothing that they could do. I ask you ....how can a company do that?Answers:

Plus - information on grant is FREE. You do not need to spend $299 for anyone to look for grant for you. You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grant.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grant. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit scheme.
Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or chronicle that supposedly has information on grant -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA have, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is matching - hardly any grant for starting a for profit business or for personal purposes.
Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups near specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanate from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program

Entrepreneurs are apparently not one of them, so I take it they also don't enjoy listings of private foundations who give grant to would-be entrepreneurs.

It sounds sketchy so I'm betting you made the right decision to avoid them. My wife have her own consulting company and does grant writing for organization and companies and the practice you describe is certainly not the norm around here.
Before you start sending money to who know where, check out www.grant.gov and see if there is any information in that that can get you started. Might be better than merely losing $299 for no reason.
