Has anyone recieved a communication from Global Union Sweepstakes near an roofed check within the amount of $2975.00?
Is this a scamAnswers:
These increasingly common "international" lottery scam are a new change of the old 'advance fee' frauds. Do not bread it - even if your bank initially accept the check, this is no guarantee of authenticity and you will be held liable if the check is later shown to be phony.
here's a description of the plan from the Better Business Bureau: http://www.stlouis.bbb.org/news111604.html
November 16, 2004
The Consumer Fraud Task Force, a joint errand force of federal and state law enforcement agencies and the Better Business Bureau (BBB), urges consumers to use inform if they receive unsolicited checks in the letters.
Such checks may include foreign lottery winnings or fees, checks in excess of auction bids for Internet items, or requests from a foreign business or individual for relief in depositing a check or re-mailing a check contained by the United States.
Members of the Task Force said they have noted an increase surrounded by consumer complaints regarding the account of fraudulent checks in recent months.
In one scenario, consumers are informed that they hold won a foreign lottery and are provided a legitimate looking check to back pay fees involved surrounded by collecting their larger winnings.
The consumer deposits the check in his or her dune account and next withdraws some or adjectives of the money to cover these fees and send the money via commercial cable transfer to the lottery worker.
A few days later, the sandbank discovers that the check is phony and informs the consumer that the monies previously extracted and wired to Canada or overseas must be repaid.
Remember, even if your bank initially accept the check, this is no guarantee of authenticity and you will be held liable if the check is later shown to be phony. Unfortunately for the consumer, the wired money will be soundly in the hand of the fraudster.
Another variation involves a consumer attempting to deal in a high dollar item online, such as a coup¨¦ or motorcycle. In this instance the purported purchaser sends a check in excess of the asking price.
The dealer deposits the check and refunds the purchaser the excess amount. Again, the resourceful check sent is found to be a fraud and the seller is out the money refund to the purchaser.
Nobody is immune from these offers. In September 2004 Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon himself received a phony check for $5,000 payable to him.
Recently, a complainant to the BBB reported depositing $10,000 contained by money orders into her sketch, which the bank allowed her to change. The bank later determined the money orders to be fraudulent and is holding the consumer liable.
Postal inspectors be contacted by three consumers who questioned the authenticity of checks totaling over $87,000 received to settle up fees on foreign lottery winnings. In two instances, contact with the issuing bank determined the checks were counterfeit.
The third consumer received an $80,000 "certified" check drawn on a U.S. ridge. She was instructed to currency the check and mail $60,000 contained by fees to the lottery operators (in Canada) formerly receiving her lottery winnings of $400,000.
Because of schedule by the bank, the $80,000 check poor to clear and a substantial loss to the consumer was prevented.
Whether you are offered grant for something you are selling or winning a lottery or any other number of variation, remember: if you are asked to cash a check and consequently send money rear legs, chances are it is a scam.

IF they approached you first, i.e. you get an e-mail inviting you, THEN I would BEWARE, it could be someone "phishing" for your credit card info. NEVER give that info to anyone whom you are not used to with. I get an e-mail from someone posing as Paypal. I queried their e-mail & sent it to Paypal & SURE ENOUGH, it be someone "phishing".
You are right, in that if they read aloud it is free, it should be free. Because they want credit card info, they appear to have intentions of charging your credit card following on at some point. Be careful.
Want comfort on dates to avoid scam, etc. visit http://www.astrowishes.com
First, you are right to be suspicious. The warning you read about giving out personal information are honest advice. You, as expected, should never give out any such information to any agency you do not know.
There are, however right reasons for a "free" site to ask for credentials. For example, a site that requires adult status to any participate or take in the contents may ask for a credit card number because, supposedly, a minor cannot enter a legally binding contract, such as a credit card portrayal, without a parents go-ahead.
Because it's a scam. Like anything else that says free. Nothing is really free. I have a pop-up the other day for a free tuba (because I be looking for one on sale) so, I checked it out, and in the fine print it said you have complete 18 of their sponsor's offers to qualify. No thankfulness $$$$$$$$$$$
people still hope to procure good things for free, eventhough there's no such item as free lunch anymore... but the word "free" always catch attention from large group of empire.
you know it is a trap. as long as there are culture who wish to enjoy free stuffs, the trap will always be used...

what is "leverage" and "heavy concentration" within this primer?
just for business inhabitants please:Diversifying our revenue streams and leveraging our core strengths will optimize our position for the future. We will also implement marketing campaign to better LEVERAGE the firm's total capacity throughout the year, versus a HEAVY CONCENTRATION.
Answers:
I used to do like mad of financial statement analysis and ran into stuff similar to that a lot. My interpretations are:
leverage = use existing assets/expertise more effectively or, most plausible in this skin, apply them to a new nouns.
Heavy concentration = the firm sounds like it is contained by a seasonal business (i.e. ski resort). Now, management requests to do something so that the firm's revenues are not so heavily concentrated during that period. For example, a ski resort could host some category of festival surrounded by the summer.
Other Answers:
Leverage = "make use of"
Heavy Concentration = "un-even production schedule requirements"
The total paragraph is a bunch of bs, but if I had a vehicle, but no cash, I....
"On my date, I'll leverage, my non-liquid assets, to present a strong stable adjectives to my prospective mate". (I ain't got no money, but I'll brag more or less my car)
Meal times at a diner / restaurant is "Heavy Concentration" (rather than the slow times) vs load leveling the emergency to better suit the constricted resource capacities. (ie smoothing out the bumps)
