You can also become actively involved within other community organizations. There are plenty of organization out there that attract a broad variety of relatives.
Also, your choice of where to become involved might be influenced by what it is you are selling. In my experience I tend to think that advertising/PR population are more "Outside the Box" thinkers than other endeavors. I stingy, you aren't approaching one of the big six accounting firms here.
After college I worked for an advertising agency surrounded by their research department before I fixed to get into sale. As I think in the region of, I may have be in the minority near an actual degree surrounded by marketing.
I'm trying to come up with a succinct course of conveying my point here, and finding myself largely unsuccessful.
When you speak to an employer, they all want to know what you can bring to that finicky organization. However, if it's a solid endeavor or say, a directive firm, naturally it's your practice or mastery of that particular corral of endeavor they are interested in.
Marketing, sale, or public relations is different. It's not technical, but fairly, It's an endeavor of ideas, if you will. And beside people of different background, you will have different approaches, and different ways of looking at things, and this is what they want.
My request for information, though, Marketing, as it were, is such a broad pen, as is advertising, do you know what you want to get hold of into?
You have a couple of avenues here. Is it possible to start next to a pharmaceutical company, perhaps surrounded by their research department, then eventually move into their marketing department?
I ask that because to me that would appear a more direct route than to start out at a PR firm or ad agency, later try to move to a pharmaceutical company. That would seem to me to be more of a hit or miss approach.

Your lessons and enthusiasm will make you an attractive claimant.
