I once took an interpersonal skills course and they discussed this point. When you're within a situation where on earth someone is constantly criticizing you, the most adjectives source is simple desire. You own someone they want. It could be that you position in the group is what this coworker requests. I've encounter this a few times and it's true. When I sit backbone and analyzed it, the other creature be simply green of something I have. In the course, they said that instead of getting angry, bring their engagements as an indirect compliment. You must be doing very well if someone requirements to be where on earth you are!

Do others within the group own this problem beside the singular coworker? If so, if adjectives fo you group together and complain to the representative, afterwards he will be told to stop it.
If you work surrounded by a corporate environment you should move about to your supervisor and make clear to him your problems privately. Request a engagement near the three of you.

After that the co-worker will see your tired of the crap and you can use that to your authority.

From next on every time this co-worker get surrounded by your obverse voice, "Would you resembling to verbs this conversation within the Managers department?". If they don't want to be in motion surrounded by in that and verbs the conversation utter, "Then we're done conversation.", and tramp away.

Remember that when you approach your supervisor you want them on your side. So be stillness, be consistent, and explain that you freshly want to do your career contained by peace.

Nursing - good career choice?

I have always wanted to be a nurse but was wondering if it really is the right career choice for me? I am studing for my A-Levels at the moment in Biology, Chemistry and French and will be applying to uni next year.

I would love to know people thoughts on being a nurse and about this career in general. Is it a good choice?

Also, are my college subjects suitable?

Thanks
Answers: Under paid,
Over worked
Poorly equiped
Under Valued
Need I go on ?
nursing is a beautiful career choice not only it is a good career in help people, it has a good paod salary, nursing is also a bit easier than studying medicine or other similar role careers

It's a difficult question to answer because it isn't about the profession. It's about YOU and how well you'd fit into the profession.

Nurses are in high demand and the demand is just getting greater (not enough new nurses and baby boomer nurses retiring). So, it's an excellent field to get into, marketwise. And, healthcare is an industry not greatly affected by the economy.

I truly think nursing is a calling. You have to be a giver and a nurterer because the job is so demanding and the working conditions are tough. But, if it is your calling, somehow, you won't mind.

Nursing is a high burnout profession. However, there are so many opportunities for nursing that aren't in a hospital or even a clinical setting. There's telephonic nursing, utilization review--I've even recruited for client management/sales positions where they prefer nurses.

If you burn out on the hospital (12 hour shifts, staffing issues, nasty MD's), there are still great opportunities for nurses.

Ultimately, nursing will either fill you with purpose and joy or drain you of your spirit. You have to decide who you are and which it will do for you.

I'm not a nurse, I'm a healthcare recruiter.
I am a qualified nurse but only worked for a short time in the profession.
Unfortunatley unlike many other jobs a serious health problem can end your career. In office work or industry you can be off sick for long spells and still return to your job. This is not tolerated so much in nursing. The staff are interdependant on each other so a member of staff having sick leave frequently say 3 or 4 times a year for a week or two would be very disruptive to the functioning of the team.

It's a very physically and psychologically demanding job. You have to be tough and healthy to survive.

It rubbishes your social life as care is 24 hours and all but the very senior nurses work all the shift patterns including mornings, days, evening, nights, week ends, bank holidays, including christmas and new years. My experience is that staff are not allowed to take anual leave over christmas and new years because that would be unfair to those that have to work.

You start out after training as a general nurse D grade, or it was when I worked. There were 5 pay bands with in each grade. You do not get promoted. If you want to go up a grade you have to apply like any other external applicant. The higher the grade the higher the range of pay scale, the more responsibility you have. The higher grades take charge of the ward more frequently.

Every nurse starts off with a basic NHS training in the UK, but if you want to work in a surgery, or a speciality you would have to do further training. This may or may not be funded by the hospital and can cost from a couple of hundred to a thousand pounds. You would also have to arrange unpaid leave, which may or may not be granted. To get on these course you have to have basic experience on the wards for a few years, and prefably experience related to the specialization.

Yes there are better paid jobs in Saudi Arabia, but they want experience nurses in a speciality and like I said this would require further training possibly at your own expense.

Every nurse in the UK is required to be active on the register and needs to re register every 3 years. This costs about £300. You also need to proove that you have done courses in those three years to update your knowledge and practice. This is called PREP (post registration experience and practice) depending on where you work you may be funded and given paid leave to do these updates, but not all employers will fund these courses and give you paid leave so you will have to do them in your own time at your own expense.

If you wanted to work in Canada, America, Australia etc you would have to do some extra training because there courses are slightly diferent to ours and you would have to get registation in their country which no doubt would cost something.

Because you need to be active on the register to work as a nurse if you take a break and let your registration lapse you will have to do a return to nursing course which you may or may not be able to get on and which you may or may not have a bursury, they are about 4 months long and cost about £500-£600. This is the sittuation I am in. However, once leaving the NHS it is hard to get back in and if you do what ever grade you were befor doesn't matter. You would have to start at the bottom grade again and work your way up. A sister can not leave for 4 years and then go back as a sister. She/he would have to start at the bottom.

Men seem to have an advantage in the NHS and end up in the higher paid management roles. remember though this is not because of promotion. They would have had to apply for these positions.

For the past 10 years there has been a shortage of jobs for nurses because of funding. People are comming out of training and are unable to get jobs.

The pay scale doesn't compete with other professions.

As a qualified nurse you are involved less with the patient and more with management of care and to be honest you don't have to be a very caring person to be a nurse. Because as a nurse you see people ill, suffering and dying every day you become hardend. Nurses can be very unsupportive and unsympathetic towards each other. Strangley enough if you are ill as a nurse you probably won't get much sympathy from your work colleges, illness is just part of every day life.

There are benefits to nursing but not many.
It's a very meaningful thing to do and gives your life purpose. You can go home feeling good about yourself, but you may also go home and cry with sadness or frustration. You will meet some of the most wonderful people in the world but also some of the real B***trds. You will see some of the most terrilble things that can happen to a human being but also see some of the most wonderful things we can do to help each other. Patients,,delirious with pain, fear and illness may or will physically or verbally abuse you or staff you are in charge of and it's your responsiblity to take control of the situation. The job gives you enormous confidence and can be tremendously satisfying.
Obviously you need money to be able to live on but nursing is about, above all else, the patients/clients you will be caring for - they are why you will be there, it is rewarding when you help them and can see the the difference you are making.

Yes there are huge problems in the NHS - but other jobs have problems too.
But nursing isn't about how much money you can make etc it is about being there for the people who need you.
Dont do it. I spent 18 years in the nhs and put up with so much malicous rubbish that i have had to walk away from a job that was very dear to me and for the sake of my health and family. The pay was good but was going down due to cuts and staff from overseas. I was paid by the reward of patient satifaction but living in London, that doent pay the bills and increasing cost of living.
So much money was wasted in the nhs by so called business managers and graduates in you name it yet no notice of trained professionals. Its all a mess hence the way it now and Im sure these profound problem solvers award themselves great pride in thier work. Soon all the best will be gone and lets hope they will shovel the **** which they have created.
Use your head and work for a company that rewards you for your efforts and you will be thankfull one day. Ask anyone who works in the nhs and not a clipboard and pen ex nurse who loves her job. Im talking a nurse who works and gets their hands dirty and deals with the real nursing. Where will they be in 20 years time. On the scrap heap looking old and haggard with a back problem and wishing they did something else. I hope this helps.
