I am 48 and got agree to go from the retail business. I am thinking getting into the IT pasture. I only know some html, I use once Server 2003 fow a few days. What would be my best leeway?Web programming? System administration? I am merely lost here. I really need to start research something. Thanks for your suggestions guys:). job.

The good entry about IT is really it's never to unpunctually as long as you know what your doing. Considering the job souk nowadays, i see seriously of companies looking for certifications.
If i was you i would give somebody a lift the A+ and Network+ certifications
( you can buy books online for these two certs, then basically sit the exam in your own time), this will show a company that you enjoy a good knowhow of computers and their operating systems and also a good round acumen of networks.
This is an excellent place to start and it much cheaper than diving into a degree.
Depending on which IT grazing land you would pursue. Getting into programming is probably not a good just the thing since it has a long research curve and can be difficult.
Yes doing something like systems admin, gridiron admins, computer technicians, system analyst are more suitable for someone of older ages.
Computer technician is the easier to bring into since it usually only reqs a A+ records and thats not very difficult to secure. But computer technicians are really careers but more approaching a entry level charge and you wont except huge salary from it.
Network admins gross much more and its not extremely hard to find into. Usually does req a 4 year degree surrounded by a computer related degree but you may be capable of get away next to having certifications such as CCNA and CCNP.
Going stern to get a 4 year scope would be the most ideal item to do but I think going fund to school is probably not what you want to do. So look into getting certifications
