Last year my uncle had asked me to assist him by helping him pick up his children from arts school,as his wife was admit to hospital & they were on the bound of getting divorced. So I help him & he obviously have paid me for it. HE be suppose to get someone more permanenet this year to Au Pair for his son.Earlier this year since the Private schools have began,he have called to ask if I would mind helping him out again & that. So I have begun helping him out, I also study & tutor two different classes at two different places on Saterdays & pick up his son during the week.
Today he asked if I could also presently pick up his nephew from University,due to the fact that he have moved out of his residence (because the women used to yell,shout & swear at them) & he requirements lifts to campus & that.
The other light of day I had to put an end to training with a trainer because his son come out late from institution.I had simply told him that I cant pick up his nephew from school because I would find it a bit strange

They are compensated by project at a negotiated amount. Can be deliverable base - meaning - accomplish convinced tasks at certain time lines and payments are issued consequently. Or could be divided into multiple payments throughout the project or not paid at adjectives until the project is complete. Could also be royalty based incentives thrown within too which are paid over time.
It's adjectives determined at the point of negotiation and the agreed terms.
I believe you are asking more or less movie directors...
But Directors in the financial world get about 350K + per year. This will also depend on your specialty; investment bank, trading, capital market, investment management, financial managment etc...

I think on average it is much easier to become a director surrounded by the financial world than the movie world.
