Is their a Federal Law that requires an employer to pay cheque hand for four hours when showing up for work ?
Our employer schedules us for a 6-8 hour shift on a daily basis... then he sends us home simply after an hour and a half - two hours. Years ago when I be with Cagles, if we come to work and were sent home due to deficit of work we were compensated for four hours unless we worked over four then it be time worked. Is this law still surrounded by effect? If so where can I find it?
Answers: Some states, such as New Hampshire (where I lived for twenty years) specify that an employer must clear you for a minimum of 2 hours of work regardless of how short your shift was. Michigan (where I live now) have a similar law.
Although, I'll confess I'm not sure if within is a FEDERAL law or regulation within place for such an issue.
I would first check with your state's department of labor or attorney general's bureau. That would be a good starting point. Good luck!
There's no federal ruling to that effect - by federal law you must be rewarded for hours worked, but that's it. Many companies do have a policy similar to that.
