Is this an appropriate net for this position?

I have a bachelors near a double major within public relations and journalism and a minor in Spanish. I am currently employed as a Technical Writer for National Oilwell and as a cog time media relations associate beside the Houston Rockets. My combined total of PR experience since I graduate in May is going on for 2 to 3 years. I recently applied for an reason executive position at a PR Firm. I did a phone interview which I think go pretty well, however when she asked me more or less salary requirements I told her it be negotiable but consequently back door and asked her what she feel was a typical amount for someone beside my experience in the pasture to make. She said that she couldn't remember but she thought the position may be paying somewhere within the mid 20's range a year. I dream up that is ridiculoulsly low. Is that common for the field and working for a PR firm. To bear that job I would bring a significant pay cut.

Also: What would be an appropriate income to ask for?


Answers: you just said that its an rationalization executive position. Which to me sounds like sale. $20k might be reasonable if there's a huge commission structure.

I work contained by software. Our Account Execs start at 80k plus low commissions, but a good rep can still verbs in 300k plus.
I guess it will depend on which State and City you are in-

Im contained by a big city and Mid-20's is where you start if you are a receptionist somewhere- So you would be totally underpaid!!

I guess I see it as- If you are comfortable beside what you make for what you do after its enough!

Unfortunately with the experience you hold, that is roughly correct in this industry. No worries though..contained by enough time you will build up this experience AND your pay. It took me 12 years to go from a starting pay of 26k a year to 125k a year. Remember never to ask about pay on your first interview (either in creature or on the phone--unless you know that person well). Also hold in mind even though they know what you made contained by your previous position---they still have to pack the position they have available--and if they similar to your experience (and I do think you are sour to a very upright start) they will be very competitive near the salary.

A low to mid stratum PR specialist would average around 40K so the low twenties is way past its sell-by date. With a degree and Spanish skills i would reason you value is even greater.
Not sure how you targeted the job but something is sour kilter with it.
Is it dirt low: yes.
First, you can check some of the remuneration calculator websites to get an belief of what the national average salary would be for the work you are looking for. You may want to check one like earnings.com or Hotjob.yahoo.com/salary. There are quite a few of them so you own quite a few resources at your disposal.

Having said that, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, ask a potential employer what they believe you should be making. By doing so, you basically told them that they can offer you anything they want because you don't have any definite valid assumptions or expectation or requirements. I suggest you research one or more of the sites I mentioned and be prepared with a earnings requirement BEFORE you get the subsequent interview or job present with this company. At a minimum, generate sure your salary requirement at least possible equals your current salary.

Hmmmm..you own 2 to 3 years PR experience.but doing what in PR? Did your prior experience surrounded by PR match the Account Executive position? Where you doing indistinguishable thinig? If you were not doing like peas in a pod thing, I can comprehend the rate she gave you.

However, I own 10 years experience in my position surrounded by Staffing and back contained by August when I was looking for work I be seeking $40,000 and one agency told me that she would pay me going on for $27,000. I did not accept it and found something that compensated what I wanted. So specifically your choice. Take it or keep looking for somethinig that pays what you want.
Always ask for more than you are making in a minute...how much of a raise do you want?.Maybe tag on 10% to your current yearly income and start there. If you aren't going to benefit from shifting positions, no sense in varying postions.

Do board member surrounded by a nonprofit business gain some form of repay for their services?

When money is donated to the organization, some of it requests to go to the "overhead", right? Because surrounded by order to keep hold of the organization running, you inevitability to hire people and reward them?

Answers: Yes Ofcourse! when you do job you should be rewarded at the reasonable wage.
what a non profit running means is that near will be no profit in accordance of the shop, but it will be turned into expenses for the improvement of the org.
No, a board should NOT seize paid. That sends the message that the institute has be set up to benefit themselves. It's what distinguishes a nonprofit board from a for-profit one. In fact, most boards of nonprofit organization donate their own money to the organization, and are charged near being the primary fundraisers for the society.

Yes, a nonprofit STAFF *does* get compensated. Nonprofits can be all volunteer, adjectives paid staff, or a mix of the two.

Answers: yeah its complicated, im job hunting right presently too. I think you should upload your resume onto a jobsite similar to monster.com.
This way employer can search for you - ive get a couple of interviews from doing that.
Secondly maybe register beside some recruitment agencies..they can furnish some good guidance cos they know the industry
when you apply for a job, other send within a cover letter next to your resume...this site has a correct cover letter tutorial
