What kind of education do u have to have to become an Medical technologist?
Answers: Are you asking about the medical technologist thats works in the lab (now called a clinical lab scientist)? Or initilas: MT (ASCP)?
That is a 1 year program after a bachelors. You rotate through blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, urinalysis etc.
This is a licensed job and you must graduate from a licensed med tech program. You also take the ASCP (american aociety of clinical pathologists) exam or similar. Your license comes from the state.
Some get on the job training, some get certificates, which take about a year, some an associates degree which is 2 years. I think it depends on what exactly you want to concentrate on. I'm looking into going to be a radiology tech, which is 2 years.
I hope that helped.
theres a lot of 2 year technological schools who'll have you doing med tech classes and nothing else(which is good because you dont fuss with all the bull#$
