Is working for the TSA as a security screener a good job?

Answers: I asked this to my housemate, who was fired on Feb 4th from her job as a TSA security screener. She was fired because a random test was done where multiple pieces of carry-on luggage were sent through, some of which contained small parts (an 8volt battery, for instance) that if, all combined, had the capability of producing an explosive device. She was unfortunate enough to be the screener on duty at the time, and did not catch this. As they have a 2 year job probationary period, which she did not yet reach, she was let go.
She does say that this IS a good job, though it requires a very high attention to detail and being totally aware of everything and eveyone around you at every moment, and a typical work week will include 5 to 7 hours of timed and tested 'continuing education' training. The pay and benefits were excellent. It did take quite a long time to wait for all the background checks they do first in order to get the job, so one must have a 'clean' record.
As an unemployed (disabled) Optician, I kept telling her that she needed to update her 7 year old eyeglasses, as she can't see sh*t, and I personally think that aspect had to have something to do with it, just my humble opinion.
I applied for it and am doing the first testing soon.
I think it might be horrible to be searching people.
It may not be the best job choice for me.

Are you looking into it, or are you asking for someone else's benefit?

Inbound call centers?

Answers: Check the classified or career section of your local newspaper. There's usually lots of call centers hiring; call them and ask if they have an inbound section of the call center. Or, think about what numbers you call in a day that may go to a call center, and try those companies' websites. For example, many large pizza companies use call centers, and tech support (not just for computers) or other help lines do too. You could try the 'crisis outreach' kind of phone centers (e.g. kids help phone) but not everyone is able to do that specific job. Good luck on your job hunt!
Watch out for scams like the one above! If you want to look for those types of jobs your best bet is to go to either Monster or Career Builder.

Answers: Tell everyone you know that you are looking for a errand. Many of the jobs that I gotten be the direct result of a friend or family beneficiary telling me in the order of the job.

I never worked for a temp service, but I own had friends that hold. Most like it. You may want to contact one.
