What should a person do if s/he majored in a useless/obsolete subject during college and cannot find a job now
Answers: Retrain
Return to your parents the money they spent on your useless education?
Expand the search from your immediate geographic area to include companies and smaller businesses which will train college graduates (regardless of field) in what they need done.
My husband's company hires college graduates for many positions. They don't care what the degree is in, unless it's English (they have need for proofreaders and tech writers), but train new hires for the position they're filling. They prefer the degree because it means a certain amount of intelligence, a work ethic, and responsibility.
No subject is useless or obsolete. The mental discipline acquired while making it through to graduation is applicable to many jobs. Maybe you need to broaden your thinking about what jobs to apply for. What was that major??
Alternatively, you could do what so many impractical graduates do: postpone the problem by going to graduate school. Sooner or later ingenuity or luck will kick in.
I don't know but when you find the answer - tell me!
Seriously, retool your resume to emphasize your experience not your education. Talk to the folks at Goodwill Industries or a not for profit career center like them. Temp.
Most importantly, find what you love to do and get involved in unpaid opportunities in that area so you can network with people who have their ear to the ground in that industry.
