Depends greatly on what type of work you do.
Salaries can be very low, such as high school teachers. Those might be in the 20s or 30s, I don't know.
If you get a PhD and become a professor the salaries are decent. Those can be in the 60s I believe.
you can earn much better pay by working as a defense contractor, or as a programmer. Your starting salary could be in the 60s, even if you only have a B.S. or B.A.
If you have a PhD you can also work in the financial world. They have quite a need for it. The pay of course is much better.
Really depends on what you do and who you work for. Math degree means you can think, problem solve, and good at analysis. Degree is transferable to many jobs and careers working in many different industries.

Employment. What am I doing wrong here?
Hello!I am trying to get hired contained by the Collection industry which I have 16 years experience contained by, a good resume put out near, and yet here I am sitting here waiting for the phone to ring for a year presently! What can I do different from what I have be doing? Is my age a problem?(I am 47 by the way) Any advice would be so treatment!
Answers: You and I are in impossible to tell apart boat. I have be unemployed for almost two years and I hold lots of experience in my former pen. I am in my impulsive forties and it has never took me this long in the past to find a job. I enjoy a friend who is almost fifty and she has be unemployed for plentifully longer than I have. She also have loads of experience in her enclosed space. I actually do resumes, so I get advice on mine. I be told to get rid of adjectives references pertaining to my age. For instance, I be using an email address with my age within it, so I had to amendment that. Many people will essentially assume when they see a number that it is your age and in my armour, they would have be correct.
Also, when explaining your previous employment leave bad the dates if they are longer than 10 years. The employer are only interested contained by the last 10 years. This route they will not be able to digit out your age, in directive to discriminate against you. I had to kind other changes also, but those be the major change. We sometimes do not realize things we do that hurt us. I have well-educated so much within this final year. After I did my resume over and sent it out, I did get responses. However, the job did not work out, but it was not because of my age or anything approaching that. Now I just own to find a way to remain motivated, because after so long I tend to throw my hand up from time to time. In addition, the city I currently live contained by is one of the top three cities with the greatest unemployment rate, so that tend to be a hindrance. I am aware that collections is one of the easiest field to find work that is why I give attention to it may be your age. Well, good luck and I hope this have helped.
The problem is that you are "sitting here for the phone to ring". Nope, desperate move. I know it is hard but hold on to moving. Post your resmue on www.monster.com and any other job posting sites.
Collection experience is transferable to oodles different industries. Try banking, engineering firms, hospitals, accounting firms, educatin sysytems. Hell everyone today is contained by the collection business.
Be flexible, keep contained by mind that some companies wrap up collections into Accounts Recivables or Account Payable jobs. You should apply for those job as well.
Sad reality, yes age is a concern. But I think you should perchance take a look at how you are handling the interview. Maybe you are coming sour in the wrong method. There are career counsellors and director hunting groups that can help you surrounded by that. Maybe do a fake interview iwth a friend and video cartridge it, to see what you are doing. It also may be your resume, have it checked over by a professional, it should be one page and positive.
Also, never continue for the phone to ring. YOU are the master of your own destiny and have to get your own future. Always follow up an interview near a thank you letter, email or phone hail as and follow up with them surrounded by 2 weeks. Keep searching the network for jobs and looking for full time work, should be a full time mission.
You can't just "put your resume out there" - you enjoy to actively look. Take a look at jobs available contained by your area (look at the classifieds, monster.com, and craigslist.com) and submit your resume individually to respectively company you are interested in. Before submitting your resume, look at the company's website and write a cover memo that is specific to that company and highlights why you would be a worthy fit.
If you can, print up the resume and cover letter on nice quality newspaper (stone or cream so it looks professional and stands out from the rest) and walk it within. That way, you enjoy a chance to formulate a favorable impression and present them a face to stir with the resume. Call rear legs after a week to followup, and say "I really enjoy meeting you, and I would appreciate the opportunity to cram more about your company, and how I can be a benefit to your department. When can I come in for an interview?"
If you do not bring back any calls for interviews after doing this for a while, your resume may stipulation work. Get in touch beside a professional resume writer or job coach, and ask them what you stipulation to be doing differently.
Jeesh, musicman, you have be out of work for a year? That has to be so frozen on the pocketbook. My hubby is off for 2 - 3 monthes and it is a physical pain. But later he has that to look forward to every year.
Good luck to ya out in that in that big discouraging world.
In order to be hired surrounded by a job, you should surpass the basic requirements. Your age might be one of the factor and I also agree with the other comments where on earth you need to review your resume or own someone who has an concept about Human Resource Management if available. The presentation of your credentials surrounded by the resume speaks for yourself. Given you had an experience, probably if you merely stated in the problem presented that you enjoy contributed a lot surrounded by your previous job making you the most surrounded by demand hand in their company, but the project phase out why you departed your previous job. In amalgamation, you need to follow-up your application by phone or surrounded by person, express to the in-charge of personnel your keenness to be part of their prestigious company and if you can afford, you may voice that in proclaim to let them know that you’re sincere and deserving, you can do volunteer work for their company whenever they stipulation additional human resources to accomplish unshakable task. If you try this and still not hired and knowing how competent and professional you are, I guess, you are a threat to the supervisors or director there near your enriching experience in the area you have mentioned. Don’t distribute up, you should be placed properly in the subsequent job you will enjoy. Meanwhile, maximize your skills and knowledge beside consultancy, direct selling and any part-time business/jobs, who know you will discover you will flourish in exotic line of work. Goodluck! Keep on praying and on a winning streak your craft!
Go to the yellow page and look up collection agencies and credit card companies (you can do that online for other cities at yahoo yellow pages). Ask if they are hiring and if you can come within for an interview or fax over your resume. I would also have a friend or relative look at your resume. Does the object say you are looking for a collections assignment or something vague? Are near misspellings? Did you put down your hobby was parachuting close to one applicant whose resume I saw had down?
Your career: Would you verbs working if you get the impression under-appreciated?
I mean that it's a well-paying available job but you feel under-appreciated most of the time. It's as if you earn the money but don't get the impression like you deserve it?Would you shift on working in that situation?
Answers: No I would not. I've be in that situation previously, and even though the $$ was flawless, I worked my butt off and nobody ever give me any kudos. Everyone needs a praise every now and after!
Under-appreciated or You don't deserve it? which one?
Well paying job? Don't distribute it up until you have one to replace it beside.
I would start looking for another job, but wouldn't quit until I have one.
It might suck at work, but no paycheck sucks more.
