Careers Employment Questions and Answers

My husband is an ex felon does any one know where he can get a job in Denver?

Answers: There should be agencies in the Denver area that he can approach.thy have contacts to provide employment...you may want to start with the local employment office..

Good Luck
what kinds of crimes did he commit?
Alot of times the work available will depend on the type of crime (violent or non violent) for example if he was a murderer vs a tax evader both felonies but you get the implied difference.

does your husband have any skills or has he learned a trade?
Maybe your husband could start his own business.
janitorial or landscaping businesses could be quiet lurcrative.
I just have a misdemeanor on my record, and I cannot tell you how many times I've heard the phrase "start your own business". Starting a business is not the easiest thing to do for anyone, especially when you are broke, need a regular paying job and nobody will touch you because of some stupid mistake you made 10 years ago.

kissmymiddlefinger is a good indication of how empathetic people are when it comes to hiring felons. Pretty much if it had anything to do with sex, violence, stealing, or drugs, don't bother even looking for a job. In addition to employer discretion, laws such as HIPAA and the Patriot Act say that high risk people cannot be hired. The military takes almost everybody that signs up and they won't even take a felon.

I would have to agree on employment agencies as being a good idea, they have access to information on many opportunities. You just need to find a reputable agency in Denver. Some agents I know of normally charge nothing up front, they find you a job and negotiate a salary, for the first year or so they take a confidential percentage out of your paycheck as their payment, then after their fee is paid up you renegotiate a new salary.

Another thing that may be good to look at would be a trade where you can join a union, such as teamsters or the electrical workers. Unions can help find you a job and they will fight to keep you employed.
He can do freelance writing, there are many positions listed at http://w2c.info

What is the average income for Paralegals?

Answers: it depends on where you live what type of firm you work for, how large the firm is and how much experience you have. Starting out in PA around 30-35 mid level 40-50 and senior 50-65
The opportunities for a paralegal really depends on the specialty. The most in demand paralegals are those in the litigation field; followed by corporate paralegals who are responsible for maintaining corporate records, articles of incorporation, etc. While the "least" markeable [but the "highest" paid] paralegals are in the field of intellectual property [i.e., patents, trademarks] and immigration law. In conclusion, choose your paralegal courses accordingly, with emphasis on litigation preparation [discovery], docketing/calendaring of incoming pleadings [calendaring] and trial preparation [creating Exhibit tabs, Bajii jury instructions, etc.]. The "pro" side of a litigation paralegal is often "unlimited" overtime which can amount to a high salary range of $65,000 to $75,000 per year, while the "downside," being constantly pressured to meet a monthly client billable quota. And failing to meet that quota, often results in the paralegal's overnight dismissal. It's not a pretty picture. I just want to lay out what really happens in the real world of litigators and their relationship with subordinate paralegals.

Good luck!

I am thinking about going into nursing. I would like to be a neonatal nurse. any advice? thanks! Sarah,17?

Answers: A lot of hospitals have a volunteer program where you can be in the viewing room and just hold babies (maybe their mother is sick or unresponsive or contemplating adoption etc.)...Anyway.. you'd have a chance to be in there and see what it's really like to do that job. Do it regularly for enough time to see if it quickly becomes boring/routine or captivates you. Make sure that you see if there's stuff (by watching the nurses, doctors) that would gross you out to do (give babies intravenous injections, changing diapers etc). Get a good idea before going to school. I say this because my sister-in-law attended 2-3 years of nursing school and worked hard on the academic courses only to find that she was unable to give injections, cause pain, endure stench etc. She was devastated.
Perhaps you can arrange to shadow a nurse in that position. Then you'd get an idea of what she actually does in a day. My sister had a similar experience, but trained as a Certified Medical Technician. She worked for a doctor for less than 2 weeks. I went to real estate school, got my license and then realized the first day of the company's training that I did NOT want to do that.
