Should I not record self-employment as work history on my resume?

I've been getting some positive feedback on my resume and a few phone interviews, but no offer yet. I've be self-employed in a related fied of technology for yesteryear few years. So, I decided to be honest and detail that on my resume along with my experience beside various clients. I've read that some of these corporate goon hiring manager "look down" on self-employment and it's somehow viewed as self "out" of work. Is there any truth to this? Any experience on this?

Answers: Take them bad the resume and it really will appear as if you've been without a job for a long period. Some companies do see self-employment as a distrustful, but it would be worse to see a huge hole in your resume.

I wouldn't be express to assign blame to the self employment, perhaps it's the presentation of the resume a bit than content. One mistake self employed people sometimes produce is to not put the name of their company. They seem to be to think they should simply roll "Self employed" and leave it at that.
Different nation will read into it differently and in plentiful instances it will be seen as a positive; it shows copious qualities needed to be self employed.

The flip side is that if you don't enter your self employment as work history you will enjoy a large distance which will be more difficult to explain.
I agree with not recitation "self-employed" because "self-employed" doesn't give any positive points to the interviewer. On the other mitt, they will assume you are playing words for "un-employed".

In your resume, your achievement is more influential than type of business, e.g. instead of saying self-employed, you better mentioned the feat when you worked as having your own business. In that baggage the interviewer will consider that you still have a living either as member of staff or business owner.

1099 that Jason mentioned is the form of tax / IRS. You never know who will read your resume. It is wiser not to jeopardize yourself by wake a sleeping tiger. You don't want someone knocks your door and ask if you enjoy paid rates for your self-employed, do you?
