I think I would make it clear to them that since you know NOTHING about 'the others', judging their qualifications is something you are simply unable to do.
Then I would move on to why they SHOULD consider you.
The other's has nothing to do with what you can offer, your education history, etc. Make it clear that you expect to be judged based on your qualifications alone. Not based on what the girl whose application is behind yours did.
But make sure when you answer that way that you are not condensending the wording of their question. Make sure to input 'the way I view this process is.:
