Advice on switching departments? Help please?
I am asking this question for a friend, since I may be doing indistinguishable thing contained by the next couple of months...She works within my department, and found a job space in another department to be exact more suited to her career goal. The Managing Director loves her, and last week communicated to our direct boss that they want to extend an volunteer to her immediately.
Our boss, who provoked it in the outset, is now pushing wager on, and told the Managing Director that he can not afford to lose her at this time, and he does not want an offer to be extended. He told her to look for someone else.
My friend is seriously pissed. This should be up to her, not to our boss. Correct?
How can she run about this diplomatically and professionally? Now that she see that he is actually hinder her growth potential, she no longer wants to work for the department.
What are the subsequent steps she can take?
Answers: The opportunity to switch departments and pursue the job path of her choice should not be denied. Your friend desires to make this clear to both her boss, the boss surrounded by the new department, and the human resources department. It is wrong of one boss to hang onto her to further his interests. A good boss/employee or company/employee relationship works in the best interests of both party.
If it is at all possible, your friend should promise her current boss that she will train her replacement and verbs to be available over the phone or by email to help whenever problems come about. Her current boss is worried about the work not getting done and more or less him not getting a good evaluation at review time.
This happen to me. I got a chore in another deparment paying 34% more, and my current boss said she'd involve me another month, which to me meant an extra two weeks at a lower wage.
It is dishonourable for your friend's boss to hold her back. She's not a slave. I would insist on your friend to look for more jobs outside the department and outside the company. There is no process she can have any respect for your boss.
