Question for nurses?
Well..I am planning on going into nursing, and I was wondering something like how high your math skills hold to be..I don't excel in math at adjectives..I have never bungled a math class..but usually pull rotten a C average..But i am pretty good contained by science, and anatomy. So I guess my question is..are nearby any nurses out there who aren't so honest in math..who did only just fine in college and contained by there craft..There isn't too much advanced math in nursing is in that?Answers: On a day to morning basis, I don't encounter closely of high math equations. We own tools to help calulate drip rates and medication conversions. Plus, you are repeatedly able to double check your calculation with someone else. But I do enjoy to think critically and abstractly. You should enjoy some good adjectives sense about numbers. You are constantly counting urine output, loftiness, weight, and measure out medication. Just the other day, another nurse be drawing up heparin (5,000 units per milliliter) The dose be about 1, 900 unit and she pulled up more than half of a milliliter and told me that be the correct amount. I could easily see that be wrong just be estimating and stopped her in the past she administered it. Very simple, but very high-status. Nursing is both about have a sharp common sense and the aptitude to see the big picture(theory). Try following a nurse around for a day and see what you deliberate. Nursing is a tough job for masses reasons. Though math is a concern, I would read aloud it is not your biggest.
Most of the math required in nursing is more algebraic contained by nature, however, you may necessitate a higher plane of mathematics to navigate the required science courses (chem, bio, micro, etc). The just math that you will encounter directly related to nursing are drug calculations and IV flow rates.
Generally, if you are taking a traditional BSN program, you will entail Calculus. If you are at community college taking an ASN, I would suggest trigonometry (even though I think that they just require college algebra). I say this because, you will call for critical and abstract thinking skills as a nurse.
I've never been a math whiz, and I did fine contained by school, and doing in good health as a critical care nurse. I hold a BSN, and the only math needed be what was included within chemistry, (two chem classes total) and then I took a statistics class also. You don't use a huge amount of math on the mission, but you need to know how to look at doses and make sure they are correct- but the pharmacist does that first, and you only double check it. And of course, you other have your co workers to ask if you don't know also. You will do fine surrounded by nursing school. Go for it.
