I have a job interview but I don't (or want to) own a suit. What is a good smart alternative?
Answers: Wear hospital scrubs and tell them "sorry I was in the middle of brain surgery and lost track of the time"
Wear trousers, a shirt (with tie) and a plain jumper that allows the tie to be seen a little bit.
Make sure you polish your shoes!
An interview is your one and only chance to make a first impression on the prospective employer.
Employers expect prospective candidates to dress for an interview. There is nothing like being the prospective employer, walking into the interview room and finding your prospective candidate not dress for the occasion.
Business suits for both men and women speak volumes during an interview.
However, a smart alternative would be dress slacks, shirt, tie and sport coat.
Do you NEED a suit should be your first question to yourself!
Technical jobs typically don't. Manager jobs usually do.
If you don't have a suit and you should be wearing one borrow one. It's a mark of respect to the the company and interviewer.
If you don't need one (as per above criteria) wear something that is conservative and non confrontational. Don't wear jeans. Trousers and button down shirt with good shoes.
At least wear jacket & tie. Black shoes--nicely polished. Clean hair, cut nails etc.etc.
Depends what the job is but make it look like you have made an effort, not just turned up!
mmmmmmmmm
rent 1!!
or buy 1 or borrow 1!!
i think you can get away with black jeans and a shirt with/without a V neck jumper, and smart shoes.
Or smart black trousers, with a casual shirt unbuttoned at the top with a smart/casual blazer works well too.
