Tough situation Kate, and not one i'd envy. For what it's worth, I'd at first slip not-so-subtle hints... things resembling "you must be really ahead of the game on your work, huh?". If that didn't work, I would of late be direct with her. Say something similar to "Can you ask the boss what extra work you can do to help HIM/HER out?" or "It's my screen on the line for this duty, so this is a living i'm going to see through to completion."
