It really depends on the community. I recently moved from a small community that relied heavily on college student dollars. The most popular businesses nearby were book stores, bar, cheap eateries, etc. What will work in one small town won't necessarily work contained by another.
Create a list of the businesses contained by town. Are there duplicate businesses? What seem to be missing? What types of businesses do really well? What does poorly?
Another route would be to do an informal poll of the townspeople. What would they resembling to see? Is there a business that they enjoy to travel to get to or enjoy to go online for?

There a few things I approaching to do - I've had a few job so always appear to be meeting foreign people.
What sort of work do you do? I work for an organisation that have lots of meetings round nice big table. Whenever it's a new slot for someone, we go round the table and introduce ourselves. As the untried person, I approaching to write down the name of respectively person and where on earth they're sitting in relation to me - usually I purely jot them down contained by a circle. If I'm fast adequate, I also write down what they do as job titles are equally importat where on earth I work. After the meeting I variety notes just about what people look similar to (nice comments incase anyone reads them...so not 'fat cow' but 'red hair', 'fab glasses' (even if they're not), that sort of thing).
