No situation what the job is that you are applying for, if you can't communicate properly, you will enjoy a harder time being considered for the mission. You already have a knack for building miniatures so i.e. where your focus should be. So much of the special effects we see on peak these days are CG but here is still a demand for model builders and miniature builders.
If you required to do CG special effects you would have to budge back to academy and learn 3d modelling and texture map, among other things. Unless you are already doing these things as a hobby then I would right to be heard that you're too old to break into computer generate special effects.
Most importantly, from this day on, you enjoy to ask yourself "what did I do today to get me closer to my dream post?"
