Well the real premise is that those job requiring degrees also are supposed to require some plane of knowledge that a non degreed party would not have. For example someone that merely graduated highschool wouldn't breed a very flawless high arts school teacher because they don't enjoy the depth and breadth of knowledge basic to build good lesson plans for students etc...
Someone only out of high arts school doesn't have the erudition it takes to be a chemist or a biologist because those skills want further education.
However I do agree that the workplace have lost sight of this reasoning. Jobs that don't require "special" skills or comprehension now require college degree because of competition. When you have a position unscrew for say an accounting analyst (only skills required are association, ability to do important math, basic computer skills). The employer can unfurl it up to the entire workforce and get 1000 resume's for the position or they can restrict the process by dictum "4 year degree mandatory" and diminish that field down to 500.
Does that indicate that someone in the non college learned group wouldn't do a good position? Not at all. But roughly speaking if you took a large group of college learned people and a massive group of non college educated inhabitants and placed them both in similar white collar job you would probably find that you'd have a greater instance of the college educated society doing a good opening just because of their demonstrated skilfulness to focus and their additional skills (better english, more math, more computer classes etc...). Surely here are going to be some idiots in the college group and in that are going to be some awesome people within the non college group but as a whole I muse it would be hard to disagree that the college group would out complete the non college group.
But if you look at the big picture the people that label the most money are those that started their own companies or worked for themselves. Some of the richest people on dust didn't graduate college. So if you don't want to go to arts school but you still want to make money use the skills you know and start your own business and stay determined and hopefully you can form a good living too!
