First I might hold a sit down with your different boss and/or manager to explain what happen on the previous job. Secondly, you might check to near the local authorities about file charges against the X... see a lawyer -- lawsuit --- slander --- even if you don't pursue the issue freshly a letter from a legal representative will put a scare into them.
I believe this is illegal. I'm not a legal representative, but you may have a vilification of character lawsuit, because the ex-employer have intent to harm you. You should contact an member of staff / labor attorney asap.
As for being fired, be glad that you are away from these empire -- it seems that you enjoy already moved on anyway. I too was fired by a representative covering her own mis-doings, who progressively went from "it's best that he not work here anymore" to "his skills are questionable" to "I'm afraid of his anger" inwardly one week from firing me. No. It's impossible to be bored at my brief. I work with deaf and hard-of-hearing preschool children. It's extremely rewarding when you run into a child who has never hear or made a sound surrounded by his/her life beforehand and he/she leaves our preschool program speaking in full sentences.
