Careers Employment Questions and Answers

Can a resume be 2 page long? All my information go onto the subsequent page within Windows Word when I be typing it.

Question:

Answer:
Throw away the blank 1st page and you're back to a single page
yeah as expected, short and to the point is better. get someone to read it, and afterwards squish it down using bigger keywords.
Yes, but most perfer one page. However sometimes thats impossible..
Employers don't read to the 2nd page, or they scan for keywords if it is a huge HR department. If I can get mine to 1 pg, anyone can.
if you have to hire 1 person and you get 200 resumes that were two page.would you read them all?
be honest
If you're applying for an entry smooth position, you probably only want one page.

If you own significant experience in your corral, a longer resume is fine.

You're going to see a lot of conflicting answers to this one - even the HR professionals disagree :)
Yes,.(with qualifications)
My resume is 3 page long, with lots of white space. It depends on what the prospective employer is interested within.

It depends a whole lot on your work history, and how you format. I be for almost 15 years an independent tech writer and worked by the project. I have 12 version of my resume. A lot of companies want dates, others want accomplishments.

My resume is done contained by MSWord in three columns (table). 1st are date, Middle is Company/Client, 3rd is responsibilities and accomplishments

Call your fam and ask them to bring back you a bus ticket.

Is it a rudeness to ask for a retribution rise when I enjoy solely be contained by the work for 5 months?

Question:
I have be in my available job for 5 months now and subsequent week i am having my deeds review.
When I received the offer reminder from the company it stated the starting salary. At the time of the interview I mentioned around my salary mortal reviewed in 3 months time, but the GM who agreed to it have left.
Will the exotic GM laugh at me within asking or shell I not mention it.

Answer:
It really depends on whether you merit a pay rise - if you quality you have made a costly contribution in some method, then you should as expected point it out and make a citation to the previous GM having stated it would be reviewed. The strange GM won't laugh at you (or it would be extremely unprofessional if she did) but be prepared to maintain your being remunerated more. Good luck - just be pacify and professional yourself.
if u dont ask ,u never know the ansrew ,give it a run they may even say yes !!
Well, it depends what type of running review you're having. Lots of companies don't in actual fact have wage reviews at the same time as appraisals. If your career description has changed - you own taken on more duties, then you can dance with that information to the appraisal and ask for an appropriate rise surrounded by salary. If near wasn't anything in writing in the region of your salary mortal reviewed, then anything an ex-member of staff said, whatever his position, isn't relevant. Arm yourself next to as much detail about what you be taken on to do and what you are doing now and if you believe you deserve a rise, consequently you will probably get one.
You said you have an offer memo stating the starting salary etc, Take this near you to your review and ask the question.People typically have a starting gross which goes up after 6 months and are as a rule put on full money after a year. This normally next goes up annually next to inflation. Some jobs are working related so you should ask this in your review...
It is other a good theory to ask for more money, or whatever else you want. That is why other nation get more. (including your boss!) During the interview, newly say something similar to "I feel i own worked hard for the company" and "next to inflation, I now find I entail lb20.00 extra a week to live" and see what they say. If no reply, start looking for a assignment where they will distribute you that bit more!
How valuable are you inyour contemporary job .You can ask for if doesn't jeopardise your opportunity.Me i would keep up beside my good work other trying by all resources to show my employers Iam a thorny worker.Your new boss may not know you as much as the old-fashioned one.Wait for a year and start talking roughly pay rise .Other prospect wait untill you work out your new boss if he /she is a party that can undersand your situation you can aproach him /she before 12 months length
its your right to ask knock and it shall be opened query and you will find
Mention it...If you don't ask, you won't get.
ASK AFTER THE PERFORMANCE REVIEW.
MENTIONED WHAT THE PREVIOUS GM HAD STATED.
I WOULD HAVE ALREADY MENTIONED IT AFTER THE THREE MONTH TIME FRAME.
The ceremony review is the place and time to ask for a raise. If he say you aredoing a good career, mention the conversation with the previous GM and ask in the region of a raise

I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm getting replaced at work. What should I do?

Question:
My boss is away for the week and it is my job to forward any messages to her. I get a voicemail from a woman asking about the segment time secreterial position that my boss has be advertising. I know that this is my livelihood because I'm the only chunk time secretary and there isn't satisfactory work for me let alone two quantity time secretaries.

I don't know what I've done to warrant getting fired. I believe I have be an exemplary employee and my boss will be challenge to find my equal. What should I do and what are my rights? Should I confront my boss when she gets spinal column? How can I explain getting fired on my record when I wasn't fired for a explanation?

Answer:
OK, let's not jump to conclusions. Getting fired imply that there is a poor recitation issue, and you seem confident that this isn't the casing. Maybe they plan to have a layoff and hand over you a severance package. Maybe it's a money issue and they want to find someone smaller amount expensive. Maybe they ARE hiring another person because the boss's boyfriend wishes an assistant to pick up his dry cleaning. There's no point in making yourself crazy adjectives weekend since you can't do anything about it until the boss comes pay for anyway.

Some things you CAN do right now to surface more in control of your destiny:

-start checking mission postings at monster.com, careerbuilder.com, hotjobs.com, etc. See what else is out there within your area.
-polish your resume so it's in place to go when you are.
-contact your reference and let them know you may be looking for work soon and needed to give them a heads-up.

When your boss does come vertebrae, give her the letters and her messages. As you give her the voice communication about the quantity time job, smile sweetly and ask her if she is planning on count staff to the office, or if this is your assignment tha tis being replaced. If she is stupid satisfactory to run a blind ad for a position i.e. occupied and next leave town and ask the position incumbent to pick up her voice mail, she deserves to be made to squirm.

If she DOES 'fess up that your job is finish, remember that terminations are negotiable only just as job offer are. Ask if there is a severance bundle that will be offered. See if she will represent this as a "reduction contained by force" (layoff) rather than as a termination for inflict to prospective employers who may phone up to verify your past employment. If you will be departure on relatively good vocabulary (for example, if you're being agree to go as a cost good measure), ask for a letter of quotation.

Things happen as they are expected to - if this job isn't yours to hold on to, it means here is a better one out there waiting for you. Good luck.
possibly ask your boss
Are you a full-timer? may be downsizing if so... file job loss and start looking for a new available job...
When your boss returns mention to her that someone called asking almost the job. Give her adjectives the call details and acted surprised. Tell her you didn't realize a position be open and ask for more details contained by case anyone else call with question about it. If she reveals that it is your position, work even more surprised (but act dignified.) Ask if you've done something wrong and cart her criticism in stride. If you rob it well you might not lose your livelihood or might be moved into a different position. I wouldn't get hysterical, though. You might be misunderstanding the unbroken situation. If it is bad, at lowest possible you'll know what went wrong and you can use it to become stronger and succeed within your next career. Hope this helps!
Wow... tough situation. First piece that you should do is LOOK FOR A JOB immediately. It is difficult to adopt when you are doing (or think that you are doing) a angelic job.

There are a great deal of reasons why race get fired. The grounds might be professional or personal, or maybe a moment ago a whim from a nutty boss. It doesn't really situation why, just adopt that it is a good possibility, and plan for what you strongly suspect. Go ahead and try doesn`t matter what you want, and make every energy to convince your boss not to fire you, but, hey, protect yourself above all else.

I would suggest putting on a full-court-press commission search. When your boss returns, notify her about the message you received, and a moment ago ask for honesty. There might be a great reason... possibly she really thinks that she requirements two part-time secretaries, conceivably she is helping another manager to saturate a vacancy... you really don't know.
Be straightforward beside your boss and ask her what the deal is. She have to know that you would intercept the call.

Is it bleak to apply for alike charge more than once?

Question:
Like with careerbuilder or monster. Is it okay to apply a few times or is once ample?

Answer:
I used to work for Careerbuilder.net. The majority of the companies using profession boards to post jobs also are using resume government software. I would bet that your resume is not being see by the hiring manager. Lowly HR personal are the ones who filter through the resumes.

If in that is a job you want and you surface that you're qualified for it, then I would try and get reach the hiring administrator by phoning him. Think about it this path, when the hiring manager have an open position, he/she is desperate to steep it. The HR worker who handles the resumes doesn't perceive the same "urgency" to overrun the position. I never had any luck submitting a resume via an on-line post site.

Do your research and track down the hiring manager, be aggressive.

my 2 cents.
Once is ample. With sites like these in attendance are so many empire applying you will likely not hear put money on often. Don't push it, freshly move on to the subsequent one.
no it lets them know that you want it doomed to failure enough...
Yes. Makes you look desperate.
i wonder equal thing, but i conjecture if you do apply more than once maybe they will see you are awfully interested in the situation!
You should only apply once. Otherwise it will look extremely unprofessional.
Usually once should be adequate unless ,for instance, there wasn't plenty applicants and the job be reposted or was taken rotten of the sites then put spinal column on some time later.
once should be satisfactory, receiving mutli applications from same individual might piss the potential employer off
you should apply more than once every 30 days, or unless they enunciate that your app will be on file for longer than that, but mostly it is 30days
To apply more than once makes you look resembling you don't know what you applied for. It's better to apply only once.
NO but surrounded by person it works if you're hot.
no,.. within fact if the company be not going to hire me anyway,... i would apply everyday
I am a recruiter and I would suggest only applying once for like job; you can follow up next to a phone call to show your interest.
Good luck!
I would contribute enough of a time distance before I reapply
once is ample, they'll realize that all the applications are from one and the same person
Once is satisfactory. Don't look too eager, it can be annoying.
once is plenty but its ok to apply more than that if you haven't heard anything out of them within a couple months then i would reapply
I suppose it definately okay to apply more than once, it shows determination and interest. good luck.
No because beside that many applications..do you really believe they see all of them. If you really want to find attention..send one contained by the mail..manufacture your stationary and your paper standout so it will be remembered
no next you job interveiwer may see that your determination to achieve the job may affect how you work. so they may xept you
If you are posting your resume, do it once. If you are applying for a post, apply once and communicate with the employer to see where on earth you stand. If you can't talk to the employer, apply as tons times as you want.
I did it when I was infantile. Told them I was 18 and did not catch the job. Went support 2 weeks later, told them I be 20 and got the post. Dress different and hope you get a different interviewer.
You should create one vindication in Monster or Career builder but I give attention to you can create different resumes to use to apply for different jobs. If you really want a individual job - and see it out in attendance again and again, I'd go ahead and reapply - they might donate you an interview to get you rotten their back and consequently end up hiring you when you do a great livelihood interviewing.
Once is enough, but after call and follow up on the phone.

If you preserve applying, it sends a signal you are disorganized.
i dont think it is. perchance as much as 2 times is good. but dont' repeataly do it. next they might think you are not anyone serious. 2-3 times is good only just to get your point across :)
If you truly want a position - the just way to grasp it is to apply. Do you know what happend to your original? It could own been lost or misfiled. Apply again and righteous luck
once is probably enuff unless a long time has elapsed between applications and if they complain blame the computer
Apply once consequently call and check on your app every 2 to 3 days. If they say-so they can't find it then apply again.
I don't know roughly speaking the online jobs but when I be 15 and I wanted a chore and no one would hire me my dad told me if they don't hire you the first time maintain going in until they do, they'll any get sick of seeing you and describe you not to come back or they will be impressed by your resolve. It's worked well for me.
NO. JEST KEEP ON TRYING YOU GET IT.
HEY! don't apply twice through those places. Go to the location you applied and ask if your current application is still human being viewed. They will most imagined pull it up so transport a current copy of your resume with you and mention that you hold a resume with you. If they ask to see it next present it to them.
Also try www.snagajob.com They have some honourable job listings as capably.
Good Luck

Whats a cover epistle for a resume?

Question:

Answer:
It states your skills, obective and brief experience history.
It's an introduction to yourself in a brief message. You can state how long you've been surrounded by the industry and mention jobs that would impress the employer and you should mention the employer's pet name that you're applying for in the dispatch to show them your interest as well.
A memo that introduces you to a prospective employer and shows how your skills match their requirements. Go to monster.com, careerbuilder.com, or hotjobs.com for a taster letter and a program that will back you to construct your own.
It addresses the specific work you are applying for. It gives you a opening to sell yourself until that time they review the resume.

I review many resumes, but seldom see cover post. When I do, I don't always settle up much attention to them. I prefer to reach my conclusions base on the resume.

But, other managers may see it differently.
a cover epistle is an introduction about yourself, what work you do and how you would be an asset to the company to which you are applying.
hold it all brief and to the point...
you want to takeover their interest enough to bring called surrounded by for an interview.
(*** let them know how you will be an asset to them!)
It is a brief reminder of introduction. You write a little blurb roughly yourself, tell them why you chew over you're right for the job, and thank them for consideration. When I have to hire a replacement for myself at my last company, I tossed out most resumes because they didn't hold a cover letter, it really wasn't coincidence that the better resumes have the cover letters.
It's an introduction for the prospective employer to see how you are the perfect "fit" for the mission. Basically, sell yourself and try to cadence out the competetion. Why should that employer hire you then somebody else? Once you explain adjectives your qualifications and how you are "perfect" for the mission, you will possibly be interviewed.

I surface the company I worked for manifestly laid me stale 6 mos previously my 401K vested. Can I folder a complaint?

Question:
I worked for Wells Fargo for 4-1/2 years. I had a 401K that be to vest in 5/2007. They laid me sour 6 months before that and thus kept the 401K. I would similar to to know if there is anything I can do. I regard as companies deliberately lay bad employees at the bottom of the totem pole and there's zilch a person can do, after individual loyal all those years.

Answer:
I would contact the labor board. I am sure that they can advocate you as to your rights.
If it were two weeks earlier vesting, maybe...but you'd hold a hard time proving adverse impact 6 months out. Most 401(k)s are structured so that the hand always receive the value of their own contributions. The company contest is what is forfeited if you leave prior to the vesting extent - so a court will say, resourcefully, that wasn't "earned" yet anyway so you didn't sustain a loss.

It is true that frequent companies do use seniority as the basis for layoffs since it is one of the safest (less begin to litigation) methods to use. Laying off everyone who have been here less than x time frame is abundantly less troublesome than making selection that could (deliberatly or by accident) appear to be based on age, see, gender, or a unharmed lot of other factors that yelp "lawsuit."

Any suggestions for a available job?

Question:
I am 13 years old, and I would really close to a job where on earth I can make a great deal of money, but there is a sward service in my neighborhood, so I cannot mow lawns, and here are few children here, and the few that are go to a neighborhood babysitter. The few dogs around here are walk by their owners.
I don't really have terrifically many artistic talent, so I cannot make jewelry or anything. I be thinking lemonade stand, but that won't really bring in too much money.
So I don't own very masses options, but I would like to generate a little bit of money. Could you contribute any suggestions?

Answer:
first of all it is well-mannered that you are starting early contained by lifeyou are already ahead of alot of people by a short time ago considering starting your own bussenes at such an early age...hang on to it up..unfortunately i can't believe of any thing that you could do around your neighborhood for momey rigth very soon but i will think of something and include it up here later..correct luck!!
TAKE OUT GARBAGE
I live in California and I cant gain a job until im 14 and even afterwards people probably dont want to bequeath jobs to 14 year olds but my suggestion to u is until your 15 or 16 newly ask your parents if they will let u do extra chores around the house for money
You are not legitimately old adequate to work at a real living.

If you cannot do lawn work, try poop scooping...several guys here are making big bucks cleaning dog poop out of peoples backyard...
I wouldn't rule out the lawn service, they might be too expensive for some general public, you could offer them the service for smaller number Other than that, I would maybe bargain to your parents about unloading an allowance for doing certain job around the house.
Try tutoring smaller kids in subjects that interest you..close to math or science. This will also help your studies and would revolutionize your memory of subjects that interest you.

Also, try volunteering. Sometimes people perceive your hardworking nature and may compensate you for your efforts.

Good Luck...and most importantly HAVE FUN !!
