What is a existing "Living Wage"?
Question:
This will vary depending of where on earth you live, but my definition of a "living wage" is an income that can pay for the nitty-gritty. Not having to desire to eat or settle rent. That means a modest but verbs and functioning apartment or house, making dinner rather than ingestion out a lot. Also self able to afford a wearing clothes, but not expensive vehicle that get's a person to and from work lacking being within the repair shop all the time. Being competent to at least buy a contemporary outfit for an interview at Wal-Mart, not nessicarily Macy's (unless they have a appropriate sale) I would say within Indiana, a living wage for a one to two person household is 10-12 an hour. Mandated minimum wage is 5.15 and most employer pay around 7 in recent times to get population to take the brief. What about your nouns?
Answer:
I haven't lived in Indiana, but I did live surrounded by Ohio, and I don't believe the cost of living is much different between the two. I'd say 40 hours a week at $9-10/hour is a plain vanilla "living wage", almost "semi-comfortable".
Even living within New Orleans now, which have an absolutely ridiculous cost of living compared to prestorm because the remaining utility/service companies, and current landlords, are exploiting the unusually big demand/lack of choices of the residents, I can just just get by making $8 an hour, 40 hours a week. But simply barely. That's factoring surrounded by food, gas, rent, utilities, insurance, etc.
Let's say a simple apartment close by Indiana University costs around $400-500 bucks. If a person be making $8/hour, 40 hours a week, They're making around $1100 bucks a month after taxes. So that leaves you roughly $600 to work with. Let's guess at $100-150 for utilities, sea and electric. That leaves us $450 to $500. $50 on gas, around $400-450 left. Another $50-100 for food, going away you with $350-400. The sports car part become tricky, especially when you factor in insurance. I own a '99 Sentra, which cost me $5,000, and it gives me incredibly little trouble, but depending on your area the interest rates can verbs you.
That's how I define getting by. Because it fail to take into sketch things that are bound to come up, like medical bills, or the opinion that "man cannot live on bread alone", this is why people approaching me who make $8 regularly take up a second mission. But it also doesn't factor in ways you can gather money, like have roommates.
So I guess I'm agreeing that $7 is not a living wage, but submitting that $9-10 is.
Where I live (St.Louis) they just raise the minimum wage to 6.50 but for a two person household I deduce you need to formulate at least 13 dollars an hour to wage all your bills and still be comfortable.
I give attention to a min wage should be at least $10/hr. Believe me, that will a moment ago cover the basics. Think of ultimate year's heating bills! I could receive by on that (I live in a metro area), but as you stated, at that income I'd most predictable be able to afford a twosome of slacks and an oxford shirt from Wal-Mart for an interview, but I wouldn't be able to set foot into somewhere similar to Hechts or Macy's, let alone Banana Republic.
It would affect my diet greatly, since I'm lacto-vegetarian and buy organic-that would not be an option, nor would going into Borders and buying a few books respectively month.
Yeah, I could get by, but it wouldn't be a great life span.
Why would a (first) interview ending for 2 hours?
Question:
I submitted my resume a few weeks ago, got a christen yesterday to set up an interview. The woman said to be there 15 minutes precipitate (common), and that the interview will take appx. 2 hours.
Answer:
I have a 2 hour interview once and it involved actually wadding out an application (they were hiring base on resumes but needed the application for filing purposes for whomever they hired), assembly with a human resources representative (who primarily explained the position as opposed to interviewing me), the head of the department (who mainly did the "personality" portion of the interview for project placement purposes), and the lab manager of the positions they were hiring for who did the logical portion of the interview and gave me a building tour at the winding up. While I was not contained by each constituent of the interview for very long, it included waiting for my turn to move about in while they be also trying to avoid candidates ever crossing path. Including the hour and a half drive to gain there, it be a bit of a tiring experience but was patently a crash course in every type of interview examine I could possibly be asked.
I would bet they have a skills interview, or will want you to see multiple people.
If it does concluding 2 hours, then grain good going on for it because you nailed it.
They are probably looking to spread up the position soon and thus, a lengthly interview will allow the hiring manager to find out as much as possible nearly the candidate in need having to repeat too oodles rounds. Which means also they will exterminate those unsuitable candidate after the first round. So instead of have 5 rounds of interview, there may be 3 rounds instead. Therefore the first round is generate or break cos there may not be a 2nd round.
Good luck! :)
Part of it will probably be surrounded by HR and include filling out application forms, or taking some type of try-out. It could always wrapping up early, but you can estimate 30 minutes surrounded by HR and 45 minutes each for two different nation that you would be working with. Be sure to ask plentifully of questions. If they are giving you 2 hours, you should cram that to understand if you imagine it would be a good that you would close to, outside of how much you get compensated.
What's a polite instrument to voice this on my resume?
Question:
I am graduating surrounded by May and putting my resume together. I have great written communication skills, but how do I put that on my resume surrounded by a way save for just cliché "Excellent written communication skills" or something very similar to that. It seem most people would write that and it wouldn't be taken that seriously. I don't own any writing awards to note on the resume, but hold always be recognized by my teacher for my writing and just want to express it on my resume. Thanks :)
Answer:
i speak fluent sigh get weaker
You could say that you own a strong command of the English language, espcially within written form.
hmmm, yes but remember to spell especially right ;) oh, and I'm not trying to bring you down, but if your writing is in certainty as good as you read aloud it is, shouldn't you be able to come up beside a way to write that? I'm sure you can integer something out.
Don't over think it. Everyone puts "excellent communication skills" on their resume. The prevalent thing is if you are qualified for the opportunity. Most people looking for job worry in the region of each individual word too much. Most employer don't have time to read every word on a resume. They will most feasible scan it to see what types of jobs you enjoy held and what your major be.
believe me, in any interview the coordinator will "know" if you have devout communication skills or not by talking near you and by seeing what your cover letter and resume looks resembling. If you're graduating surrounded by May (is that from college?) then they would start you out at the bottom rung anyway. It's the sheepskin and order average that gets your foot contained by the door, plus who you know.
You just said it, "I enjoy always be recognized by my teacher for my writing " I think it massively original and will take into custody the attention of any hiring manager. I own never seen any wording resembling this..good going and well brought-up luck.

Question:
i have be actively seeking work for the past 5 months within grand rapids, mi. i hold over 10 years mechanical upkeep experience. ive sent out over 60 resumes so far, with merely a handful of interviews. they all say aloud im an excellent candidate, bu consequently i never here back from them, even after they say-so they will let me know any way. one commission i had two interviews and a hours of daylight in the pen of work. i thought for sure i had the profession. then i didn't hear anything for 3 weeks and finally received a e-mail adage i was not surrounded by the running anymore ? im not sure whats going n and im scared im not gonna capture a decent profession anytime soon. i know my interviews go ably and they all read out there impressed, but after the same point happens, time after time. im worried roughly speaking what might be on my background check that im not aware of, as these companies wont respond to my e-mails or call. i have no criminal history and i enjoy a solid work history up till november 2006, when i had issues next to my job of 8 years.
Answer:
Contact the company to see why you didn't achieve the job. If they voice something along the lines of, "you didn't have what we be looking for," ask them what it was that you didn't own. Be sure to send the company a thank-you communiqué, even if you didn't get the assignment. Don't get discouraged, you'll find a situation soon. Are you networking? Put an public notice in the local quality newspaper saying you're a mechanic looking for a employment if nothing else. Good luck!
It's probably not you, it's the cutback especially in Michigan. 60 resumes is not really seriously. You have deeply of competition. It's not unusual to not hear a response, even after an interview. Try hotels or anyplace that may use your experience. Try an agency. Good luck.
One way to try and find out is to ask one of the interviewers for specifics on why they choose another canidate. It may be that you self-worth was not going to mesh near the other employees.
Good Luck!
I would articulate don't lose hope. I looked for a whole year previously I landed one. It be through a job unbiased. Two of the temp agencies I tried were of surely no help, but after the next one I tried turned out to be golden. I'd say aloud don't take it personallyand save trying. It is hard, but you own gotta keep your motivation up...and enjoy belief in yourself and your ability, and that you will be an asset whereever you go. I'd right to be heard, try another temp agency as well. Keep trying until you find one that is to say "responsive". (Also make sure, the temp agency specializes surrounded by the kind of situation u r looking for...and always progress very well-dressed.)
As some others enjoy suggested, it's a good concept to get within touch with the interviewer (after they hold hired another) and ask for constructive feedback. (Make sure you get their business cards after every interview).
It is also a great notion to ask for feedback from the temp agencies you are registered under.
Goodluck, and don't lose hope. Regarding milieu checks, I wonder if we can do one for ourselves... (might hv to pay?) a short time ago to see what's on there.
There is a place out nearby who will definitely authorize what you have to propose, and will hire you.

If you become disabled do you loose your work retirement?
Question:
I was a reservist call up from Iraq and due to combat injuries fully disabled and unable to return to work. I be vested in my post retirement plan. Do I loose my pension ? Do I inevitability a lawyer? What is the best approach to concord with human resources its a huge company.
Answer:
If you be vested you should be fine. That doesn't mean you can collect on it presently, though--it only way it should be yours until you reach the traditional retirement age if you be fully vested.
I am very grateful for your slice in helping hold us free.
I would get an attorney and find out adjectives the details so that you will get what you rightfully deserved. Being vested, you should enjoy no problems getting your pension. The best approach is to communication them, human resources, a certified copy of all the documents that you own verifying your disability. Tell them that since you will no longer be capable of perform your situation duties, it is in your best interest to retire and draw your income.
call the department that handle the retirement program in that company and ask. Usually that personage is well versed and can support you. If you are vested (how many years does it bear to become vested in that company?) afterwards you should get the retirement money when you're 66 (or doesn`t matter what age, but ask them to be sure). Some places when you leave you achieve the option to cart the money or roll it over. I suggest rolling it over into a Roth.
I am assuming that you are talking more or less a 401K. If that is the bag you are not going to lose it but they probably not do fund matching since you don't work at hand any more. What you need to do is find out what company your retirement plan be through. Call them up and tell them the situation and they will be capable of guide you through what needs to appear next. most probable you have to roll over the funds into an IRA to avoid taxes otherwise they may also bestow to allow you to "cash out". What you do depends on your situation.
If I enjoy miss guessed or you feel similar to you need more direction, have a feeling free to email me with more imfo. I'm really sorry to hear you get hurt over there, I am a 3 time vet. myself. glad you made it home. Good luck.
Have you gotten a errand through monster, or any other online post list service?
Question:
Answer:
Not monster - they've never had well-mannered listings in my nouns. I believe (and my current job is proof) that the best job are not advertised. You can find a better employment by word of mouth or small newspaper listings.
Yes, but it be with a soul that, when he received my resume, he realized he know me already from prior business dealings.
It's possible to win a job via one of these sites, as you would expect. But consider this: how many other inhabitants are submitting their resume for that same job? It can be dozens or hundreds. What's going to generate your resume stand-out from the 50 other resumes that they receive?

Question for employer?
Question:
When running a background check on a potential hand, where would an incident of 'driving while impaired' show up? On a criminal text? Driving record? Or both? Also, how much does it impact your verdict on whether or not to hire someone with this type of conviction? (assuming it is the simply spot on their record, and the opening does not involve any driving)
Answer:
It would either show up on a driving story and/or a criminal background check.
My declaration to hire would depend on when it was. You speak you will not drive a company vehicle. That is fine. But if you continue to drive and drink, nearby is a potential for company liabilty (say if you leave a company function where on earth there is alcohol served and you decimate a small child and fail the Blood Alcohol check - a good attorney will add the company especially if they enjoy deep pockets).
So, it will depend on your parenthood and how well you are very soon.
Me? I would rather hire a DWI than a Druggie, but that does not say aloud if I found somebody equally qualified that does not carry suitcases, I would pick you.
Were you charged with a felony? How did you plead? If you own a conviction it is going to show up.
it will show up on bothand depends on your qualifications and how abundant others applied with verbs records.
It would show on both.I would verbs about absenteeism if it be recent [within a year]
