The idea for the redundancy therefore appears legal and therefore answers my first, probably obvious request for information...is this a redundancy situation? = yes (likely) - you'll be suprised of how many organisations use redundancy as an excuse to 'get rid' of unmistaken employees.
You mum have the right to be consulted with. If here are more than 20 people person made redundant, her employer has to contest some certain provisions by ruling regarding consultation. I'm not going to travel into too much detail here as that may not be the case, but please advocate otherwise.
Assuming there are smaller amount than 20 people man made redundant, the employer has to own 1 to 1 consultations with every hand effected, surrounded by this case, explicitly everyone. They need to product sure that your mum understands the process, what is going on and why and also to engineer sure that she understands what she will be unloading in vocabulary of damages (redundancy payment).
As I said before, you mum have 10 years service, I can see no reason why she should be rewarded for any less? So that would be a cross-question she needs to ask within the meeting tomorrow.
