You can't only just "become eligible for work," if you could, everyone would do it.
In some cases you have to find a company to sponsor you, they can reasonably only do this if they didn't hold any suitable American applicants. The question that they'll ask you is "what can you proposition that no American can?"

If possible, you could check near your school and ask if they switch any internships - if they don't you might ask at any of the companies where you hold interviewed, etc. Some are paid and some are not OR it could result surrounded by a letter position that could be applied to post-graduate work. If that isn't practicable, you may have to work some low-level IT livelihood somewhere - even a retail store - to at least show that you are involved contained by that field.
