For my last brief interview ( which is my current job) they did not call my reference because no one told me they did ( one of my references) and they asked me during my final interview what would my previous job read out if they called. My opportunity before that they did not call upon. I am thinking since I work with kids you would consider they would call and check to brand sure I was not crazy but they did not. Not in my world, it isn't. We check reference, criminal backgrounds, DMV library, education, and previous employment. Some companies check and some don't, but those that don't may any rely on background checks or are a moment ago asking for trouble. You would be amazed at some of the things a candidate's near and dear reference have told me roughly speaking them.
