I was a trainer. You are right, being a social worker within a school system is a "thankless" mission. I'd suggest being a social worker for your state (or another). It's a system job, devout benefits, retirement, etc., AND you would be doing what you went to conservatory for.

Can't tell you which option(s) is/are the best. But it is possible the bring back an MD in the military. Our familial physician did in the USAF. But I'd recommend you hold a clear understanding of how to do it, and the commitments it entail.
go for it, you enjoy 2 main option as I see it, you could go national guard (either army or air) or influential duty. obviously national guard would be your best bet for getting through academy and some states (illinois for one) wont deploy you while you are en route to your degree. by going influential duty you will recieve a larger amount with the GI Bill but dont believe anybody who say you can go to college while on helpful duty. the best avenue would be to enlist national guard (many states offer 100% tuition to public school for guard members) take ROTC while you are pre-med consequently switch to that states medical professional program to become a MD with the guard. this will lug care of the untold majority of your school costs. after that any switching to active duty or volunteering to deploy near the next section going would be a great way to catch a ton of experience both pediatric (the military treats many children contained by Iraq/Afghanistan) and trauma.
