How to be cool at work?
Question:
I'm 18, and have be working at my hometown's Denny's as a hostess (greet and seat) since October. What I'm looking for is some advice on how to be more confident and contribute off more of a fun and friendly nature without individual obnoxious or cold, as though I'm only anyone friendly because I have to be. If that make any sense. Lol.
Answer:
First of all, do you resembling your job? Do you enjoy fun there? If you do, it will show. You own to really like dealing near the public to work a front of the house position in a restaurant, if you don't it will show.
Make sure you are all right groomed and feeling confident something like your appearance, smile a big toothy smile when people stride in the door, and overt the door whenever you can for people. Try not to look bored at the host stand, when it is slow, get hold of a towel and dust the area by your station, or windex the front door, stock your station, etc. Looking busy other gives race a good first impress. Talk to the kiddos, not about them. When chairs people, verbs out a chair for population, or help them beside their coats.
I keep a book of stickers from the dollar store within my apron, and I like to distribute these out to kids, they love stickers!!
Practice idle chit chat, just about the weather, or compliment someone on their sweater, stuff like that. Make general public feel resembling you are paying attention to them, not simply filling your sitting room chart.
Yeh, that's tough when I haven't seen you. But simply smile, enunciate good morning, and ask them how various they are. Then, ask them if you can get them coffee or something. Or of late say something generic approaching what a beautiful morning it is. You don't really want to be cool, just polite and warm. And relax, the purpose of such a job is to support you to be more poised and comfortable with other associates.
I work at Chick-fil-a and a local daycare. If you want that naturally postive smile and appearance when greeting and conversation to guests, think in the order of something really funny that makes you roll with laughter just formerly someone walks surrounded by. That way, there's a inbred smile and people can hear the resound of laughter contained by your voice, the opposite of forced-friendly. when your thinking in the region of something that lifts your spirit and mood, you will be more natually confident.
i used to enjoy a hard time dealing next to new nation, but then i started makeing little mental descriptions of stupid funny things from a chick flick i'd watched the dark before and it be so much easier to handle population when i was laughing to myself on the inside. humor is everything. newly dont bust out into hysterics in someone's obverse, they will think you are crazy!
enjoy fun!
Dont worry just about being cold or obnoxious, If You imagine and inteded on being nice, later that is adjectives that matters! Dont second guess yourself, and Always remember, You cannot and will not beable to Please Everyone! So enjoy fun and do what you think is man nice and polite! Be Happy and people will muse hmm whats her secret? Confidence is man your own best friend.
How sneaky?
Question:
My boss waited till I go to Macdonalds and turned my radio off. It be on low enough to a moment ago barely hear!! I enjoy it on cause most of the time you can in truth hear a pin drop on our carpet tiles.
Answer:
Your radio shouldn't be on when you're away from your desk for lunch. Consider yourself fortunate that your boss permit you to listen to the radio at all.
You're in attendance to work, after all. If you be supposed to be enjoying yourself, they wouldn't send for it "work".
Ok so when you got vertebrae in be you allowed to turn it backby the side of?
Turn it back on again. If he didnt in fact tell you to turn it rotten then how could you know. Say you thought someone be saving the mobile for you and turned it off while you be out xxxxx
Maybe your boss was of late trying to save the battery.
Aaah. It all become clear. What a petty b1tch she must be. How do you cope with the boredom? Would you know how to get away near a personal mp3 player? Mines really easy to conceal. Good luck.
Your boss? You anticipate the person who is in reality in charge here? The person who if catch you on here will probably pull the plug on your computer too?
Good Luck ;-)
subsequent time you go to macdonalds, achieve him a burger and fries, then spit within them.
I dont understand what the problem is?
Why don't you ask your boss why he turned it stale ?
So turn it back on.
report your boss to leave your radio alone
My boss in reality installed the radio in our bureau!
are you sure it was your boss, possibly another employee turned it stale. sometimes even a low noise can irritate someone to do things resembling that. Just ask around and don't make a shrewdness until you find out why they turned it off. Maybe achieve yourself some ear phones or turn it off when you are away from your desk.
Maybe they turned it bad because you left it on when you not here. Did they let you turn it posterior on?? :o)
There is actually a decree about have radio/tv on in workplace.
It may be the premises don't enjoy legal right/license to broadcast radio.. even contained by a small office. They may entail a special license.. more than a home tv/radio license.
I think thats incompletely one reason why like mad of motorway service stations have their own radio type dj music shows, any in-house production or sourced from specialist firms.
What's the problem?? Maybe he just didn't want to rubbish energy or something? As long as you be allowed to turn it on again no harm be done?
This sounds silly why don't you just ask him just about it, he'll appreciate your honesty!
Do something different than your boss- have some ball and be direct. Just say to him/her "I notice my radio was rotten when I got final. Does my playing it bother you?"
Then just see what the agreement is and work out something. Maybe their former lover's song "Baby Got Back" came on and he/she a moment ago couldn't deal. You'll never know unless you bring it up.
That is sneaky. Seagal contribute to do kung-fu on his arm. Seagal close by, waiting.
Having a radio on at work is not a good work ethic. You are in that to prove you can work without a crutch. A radio can be distracting and set up an employer for a ruling suit. We had a girl sue our company and fellow member of staff I worked for because she could not hear due to someone else's radio. Her hand be cut off by the means of access!
turn it backby the side of,or take it near you next time so he can't touch it and after you will be in control of the situation
im more concerned you have lunch at mc shites. mmm. healthy!
;-)
in good health he turned it off cos u be not there simple as that
Surrounding human resources probably could hear your radio and complained to the boss. Surely you can solve this problem with a set of earpiece. You'll hear your radio better and no one else will.
Most humans will do exactly what your boss did and do the unassuming aggressive turning off the rado while you're out to avoid have to say "your radio, although extremely low, is still audible to us adjectives. Most of us do not like blue grass music but if adjectives of us bring in a radio, later..."
Fix this before a small article like this become the reason you're call names losing your back.
Must enjoy the grumps like my boss today. we're not even allowed a radio surrounded by the first place so I envy you a bit.
Minky he is obviously a shitebag, coz if he be a proper boss, and the radio annoyed him, he should have the means to ask you to turn it off, i'd hold on to my eye on him x
Ohhh i hate it when they do things approaching that. It has be proven that productivity rises when their are music in the back-ground, when i worked it be so depressing we were adjectives down and out until we begged the boss for a radio. Then it be so nice, the customers commented on it. I hate going into a shop and it is late quiet and empire speak in hushed voice like contained by church. Feels to funeralish to me. Turn your radio back on and explain to him the you can concentrate better with the radio on softly.:))))
Its nice to work within a comfortable working environment and if there are no complaints or rules against the raido afterwards fire it up full blast and to hell with the boss!
that's a boss for ya
only just trun it back on and stop woring over this, your boss is only an a**
but have a great afternoon anyway!!
Must be a nice job - allowed to enjoy the radio on AND play on the internet whilst you're at work. Any vacancies there for even bigger moaners I wonder... Some individuals don't know when they're well rotten!
next time wander back surrounded by and say "hey who turned past its sell-by date the radio" and turn it back on, or engender a point of asking everyone if they want it on?! maybe everyone looked-for it off?
The minimum wage?
Question:
Would you Support or oppose an Initiative to bring to the fore the minimum wage to $8 per hour for those that are 19 years old or elder.
Answer:
I would definite support the initiative to incline the minimum wage to $8 per hour for anyone who is eligible to work. It beats working 5.15 if you live surrounded by KY like myself. Ciao infant!
well seeing how congress have already rasied the minimum wage (at leats they did something right for a change) why get greedy?
argue against
I would oppose that base on the AGE factor. I'd say AGE shuld not event. If you are working, at whatever age, the minimum should be $8.00 per hour (or more, depending on the job).
Oppose. Minimim wage be never designed to be a living wage. It is an entry level wage. However, ethnic group tend to gravitate towards federally set limits such as the maximim interest rate you can charge or the minimum wage, and relatives accept this, because they have a feeling it must be ok if the government set the restrain. Since the wage not meant to protect those working for a living wage, it may hurt abundant people who are surrounded by positions paying slightly higher than $8.00/hour.
A big supporter !
Although funny how it (min. wage) is once in a blue moon " in-forced " by employers or workforce dept ..etc.
How many workers, own too work over-time for free, don't take adjectives holiday entiltlements or lunch breaks..etc.
Majority of workers, me thinks !
I'd answer rising the minimum wage. In fact, I'd close to the market to determine minimum wage, however I know it won't surface... in current conditions and according to my beliefs, min. wage shouldn't rise.
Concerning the minimum wage: The lone initiative I would support is one to get rid of the minimum wage adjectives together. It is very injurious to our society and economy.
argue against.
EVERY time it goes up inflation go with it.
The cost of those wages by necessity is passed on to the individual consumer.
minimum wage will other be the bottom of the heap, no event how high it go it will not improve anyone's lot for more than a few months.
All it does is fuel inflation.
I would to some extent start at a lower wage and work my way up than to start at a highly developed wage and not be able to walk beyond that because it is already so high, while inflation continues to climb, inflation that be fuelled or even generated by a sophisticated minimum wage.
Employers would like to hand over more raises to hang on to good workers. Starting a entity at an inflated $8 means that it will be more difficult for heaps of these employers to tilt that. Contrary to popular opinion because you own a business you are not automatically "rich".
A good tons jobs are already at or practical $8 and these are mimimun unskilled work. Employers pay this to be competetive to find and keep workers that are dependable, polite workers, willing to swot.
Many college grads are shocked to learn that the job that are open to them (entry level) don't retribution "big bucks" they pay a incredibly modest amount. That amount is often at or close your proposed minimum. They must get TRUE experience and proove themselves before they are compensated more.
Now let's say you suceed within getting a $8 minimum. And Fred who is working at an unskilled job that would typically foot minimum. Now there is Pete who is a skilled worker perchance in a profession. Pete is lately starting out in this profession an so his wages are close to that $8 minimum. What happen when you raise the minimum for Fred?
I enjoy been a minimum worker. I workd my path up.
Later I went into a profession where on earth my starting wage was no mre than the non professionals who worked in attendance. (they were skilled non professionals who have proven themselves.) I was OK near that because I understood I have the education to work up.
I also hold employed people contained by my business. I pay unskilled wages highly developed than minimum. I give rases as possible. When minimum go up that becomes an impossibility even thought these those deserve it. Suddenly workers who have be working for sometime find themselves taking a giant step back words to working minimum wage or only slightly above it. Is that fair?
Raising the bottom will other drive everything up and the bottom no matter how elevated it goes reamains the bottom.
It is better to proove you worth. To take educated where on earth possible. Education by the way is not other just formal lessons. Have some drive and willingness to work.
Can you earn one million dollars surrounded by one year?
Question:
Your attitude makes adjectives the difference. If you think you can you will find ways to get hold of there. If you guess you can't don't bother even trying by itekmobility
Answer:
Yes, you can. There are people who do it. And you're right -- adjectives you have to do is to believe that you can do it and next to the right idea and application, you can earn that million dollars in one year.
Here's a BBC report story of a British college student who made a million dollars in 4 months near a great business idea http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4585...
Advancing my craft by self an 'alpha dog'?
Question:
Having 15 years of superb experience on both technology (development, architecture) and business (product management, marketing) side, I am face with a profession advancement dilemma.
I have a "quiet" self-image - small number of words, lower volume but extremely relevant and correct.
Working in a huge company, I am finding that my personality is getting 'drowned-out'; much harder to return with my ideas across (aka, are others mediocre?); and getting professional respect for my planning and methods. While my VP (an alpha dog personality) loves the excellent work I do, gaining detection and visibility outside his "shadow" is an issue.
What are some of my options?
PS:
consistent Sr Management feedback - when you converse, people listen because of your credibility that merely comes out.
consistent subordinate feedback - you are so accessible that I do not have scepticism to approach you with an opinion or a problem. And you have the right answer adjectives the time
Answer:
Vas,
You've already stated what's relevant...being a blowhard does not pick up respect. When you KNOW you're being listen to when you do speak, it's because everyone (including those who are in the position to boost your career) know you've got something intelligent and relevant to incorporate to the conversation.
I really do not know if turning into an 'alpha dog' will get you anywhere...if anything, it may backfire by forcing you to be smaller amount than genuine within your mannerisms...and folks may whip you less seriously.
Is in attendance anyone in senior management/executive that you trust? I would share your concerns beside that person over lunch and ask his/her proposal on what steps you should take to further your profession. Folks in those positions usually are flattered that someone would come to them for guidance...it's a low-level ego-stroke and s/he may have some worthy advice to intervene along...it also lets a appendage of the higher-ups know that you have highly developed career aspirations, and may put you surrounded by the running for the next promotion.
You're surrounded by a tough situation here. I can speak personally in relation to your business side. ( I have little experience beside IT organizations.)
On the one appendage, you are highly skilled and knowledgeable, and when you speak, I am sure that you choose your words carefully. You appear to pride yourself on your knowledge, and you own the ability to demonstrate this on a day after day basis.
This is also your curse. You hold spent your career, up until in a minute, "being the expert". Notice that I didn't vote, "being the leader". You in a minute need to step up to the plate, and prove to your superiors that you enjoy what it takes to be a pacesetter.
Being a leader is not purely about knowing the answer. Successful leaders don't simply "make decisions". They listen to others, and they create the best decision at the time. They solicit feedback, and organize the team to a judgment.
Check with your local college for paperwork classes. They will give you the tools to work beside others. I would also suggest that you look up an author by the name of Stephen Covey. He authored several books that would lend a hand you.
Good Luck!!
Anyone turn from a white collar commission to a blue collar trade?
Question:
I am currently doing a accounting desk job and soon will be switching to be an electrician which is a skilled trade. I will be working outside near my hands instead of sitting at a desk but it wont be as physical as seriously of blue collar jobs. I be wondering if anyone else has done this and how they in tune?
Answer:
My husband did exactly that. He is now a IBEW (union) electrician and he loves it! He worked through an apprenticeship for five years which be tough on us. We have three children, mortgage, stay-at-home mom, etc. He purely finished the apprenticeship about eight months ago.
He say he enjoys the mixed bag of not working surrounded by the same place adjectives the time. He doesn't work a minute past 3:30 (that's overtime and employer don't want to pay for that unless they own to). At his other job, he have to stay late or everyone would deem he wasn't fully committed.
He likes working beside his hands because he can see the results. When he worked written, he didn't have the sense of contributing or accomplish much. But when somebody flicks the switch and the lights come on, he's proud of himself. He checks out the light bulbs surrounded by parking lots and street lights as we're driving through town. He tells me how they install computer cable in tight spots (as if I charge, really. I just nod and smile.)
The politics are different too. There is still adjectives the normal crap you concord with contained by a white collar job, but near a different method for handling it. Before, he had to schmooze his approach into someone's good grace. Now, he just have to show up on time, attain the job done, and not be paid any costly mistakes. It's almost a relief for him. He's unquestionably easier to get along beside at home.
The drawbacks: blue-collar culture is notorious for racism, sexism, macho-man syndrome, and complaining. He ignore that kind of stuff when he can, but it get to him after awhile.
Overall, he's glad he made the switch. He enjoys what he does. He especially enjoy not having so much pressure and bureau politics to deal near. He has a company work van beside ladders on top. He say, "Let the world see I work hard for a living. I'd fairly drive this than a Lexus any day." I guess that vehicle he feels approaching he's living a real duration and not a pretentious, self-absorbed one.
He switched careers at age 37, if that matter.
good luck.
You're my hero! I've commonly thought that's the way to go--actually have a feeling accomplished at the close of the day vice pushing papers and bits against huge bureaucracies. Good luck surrounded by a venture without a doubt that will enhance your quality of natural life.
Personal Interview surrounded by a company?
Question:
Friends, I am going to attend an Interview on wednesday. What types of questions i can expect and how the anwers must be? If they ask me what's my impediment, what answer can I give consequently? Please help me
Answer:
You should be organized for the most typical questions presently.
1. What are your best attributes?
2. What are your worst attributes?
3. How do you manage stressful situations?
4. What would you do on the first year of work?
In addition, hold four independant points why you're right for the job.
As for the "weakness" cross-question, alot of people read aloud perfectionism, which I think is stupid. Be honest. Most society are scared to agree in considerable public settings, mention that - it's probably something your boss can relate to.
Be honest about your weakness. Interviewers expect people to try to "spin" them into a strength. Go next to something simple, like you're impatient.
Mostly what they ask immediately are scenarios. "Tell me almost a time you had a dissatisfied customer." "Tell me nearly a time you couldn't complete a task on time/correctly."
Good luck!!
The simplest track to prepare for an interview is to review your resume as it matches up next to the job description. If it's on your resume, be prepared to discuss it within the context of their job. As for weakness, this is a question for you as an actor--
"Hmm...That's a great ask...Hmm... You know, I sometimes work too hard and, over a long spell of time, I think I have need of to be encouraged to transport it just a touch slower so that I don't receive mistakes that occur from "wearing down."
When (I) received MGMT training for conducting interviews they told me one of the most potent tools (I) could use to interview someone was a moment of silence, It un-nerves folks, some of them quite strongly, so if the interviewer go silent, it is your turn to talkunless they say not to, or supply you a reason beforehand why they are going silent.
Why do you want to work here?
What experience do you own that may contribute to your employment here?
What you see in your adjectives as far as employment?
What are your goals for your adjectives?
Do You enjoy working near others?
What did you like the most around your previous employment?
What did you like the least possible about your previous employer?
If I asked your later boss about you what would he/she say aloud?
Depending upon the position your applying for will also have an impact on the different question they may ask.
Remember, when being interviewed by someone you the
applicant wishes to turn the interview around at some point and time and begin to interview them. Ask him/her give somebody the third degree like how do work to the even to obtain your position, how long enjoy you been here next to the company, do you enjoy working here and so on. Keep them conversation about the favorite subject he know abouts about and LOVES to bargain about THEMSELVES. It will net walking out from that interview with both party feeling right.
Help ME ... TORN BETWEEN 2 Jobs?
Question:
I need help out. I took a job near this new company, making more money next my last undertaking. However I am have be on the road since I started, and I maintain getting false promises.
My previous employer says I can come vertebrae, however the money is less. I can run on the wage, I am just concerned on how to break it to the boss I own now.
Help would be appreciated ladies and gents.
Answer:
I would write a entry of resignation saying that appreciation for employing me, after thinking long and strong I unfortunately perceive that the job is not for me. I will work my stated awareness. etc.
At the end of the light of day you want to be in a brief where you are at ease, know what you are doing and know where you stand. you could other have a word next to your old boss and ask for as small rise, if they want you backbone they might consider a slight rise in wage. I find when i am not happy at work i speak to the boss, detail them what the problem is i.e money, hours, breaks etc if they cant or don't want to sort it then I go away, but most of the time things can be sorted out. ( communication is the key)
False promises suck. Being on the road sucks. Do you helpfulness the extra money you make ample to deal next to that? If so, keep your untried job.

This is for men who work contained by an organization setting?
Question:
Would you be embarassed if your girlfriend sent valentine's roses to your job?
Answer:
I realize that you've asked for your cross-question to be answered by men, but I thought that I would share my experiences on sending roses/flowers to men. Just for the record, earlier you read my actual answer - it was NOT Valentine's Day any time when I sent flowers/roses.
I've actually have "both sides of the fence" happen to me. The first time that I sent mixed flowers (not roses) to work for a man, he be embarrassed and tease at work. He ended up (which upset and annoyed me) dividing them among the women within his office so he wouldn't be tease anymore than he was. He told me that he have done that with what I have sent him, and asked me NOT to send anymore flowers to him.
My second experience beside sending flowers (this time red roses) to a man (but these I sent to his home instead of work) was met beside ALOT of enthusiasm and appreciation.
Happy "Early" Valentine's Day.
Have a lovely rest of the day.
No, but, you can dispatch them to me if doesn't want them...
Depends on the office setting and whether you hold informed your colleagues about the girlfriend!! But consider it the other way.. would she be feeling shame if you were to distribute roses!! I believe that roses and girly things need to be kept out of department..
Can anyone transmit me more or less SEO London Internships?
Question:
Answer:
Put it like this: Unlike contained by the US, you cannot walk into such job without significant experience surrounded by the UK due to the numerous checks employers fetch out here. There are companies here promising SEO this and that but to be honest, reputable companies steer well clear of such companies because most know they are (at best) getting a green grad (and at worst, a grad who may own a sports-based degree); and most just aren't interested.
They want genuine people near REAL experience.
In the UK, SEO positions usually have to be earn. Certainly in the Civil Service, you cannot tramp into a SEO post. You have to enjoy a degree ( a biddable one) AND you have to hold relevant experience. Besides this, you have to whip off competition from THOUSANDS of better qualified Civil Servants. Most can't... If you don't hold these things, you have to enjoy been contained by the foodchain for YEARS and worked your way up. I did this (did my degree whilst working) and it took me 11 years to earn my SEO...
Any company that promises a SEO position overnight is promising snake oil. I hold been a SEO for five years; I enjoy made successful bids for BILLIONS and I have a MBA and a BA (both next to distinction) and, despite being exceptionally good at what I do and earn top reports, I am struggling to move on and do other things. Any extravagent promises are basically that - promises. But believe me, once these companies have your money, they will NOT deliver anything.
My experience.
Far better to aim lower and work your process up the chain through demonstration of competence. Trust me - this is the one and only way to bring back anywhere in the British opportunity market. We check EVERYTHING currently and qualifications from confident establishments are always checked.
