Why do engineers do incredibly little engineering?

It seems similar to most of my day is spent doing mindless paperwork and boring meeting. I do absolutely no hand on work which was the prime reason I chose the engineering pen. When I try to apply for a job that does more hand on, I am promptly told that I don't have satisfactory hands on experience. No kid right! The hardest equations I use are simple addition and multiplication. I touch like I'm getting dumber every time. Is there any process to recover from this hole I'm within without shifting professions? I am considering going back to academy to start a new profession beside more hands on work.

My husband works for an engineering company contained by Kentucky, they have their Engineers stir out sometimes & do field work on boundary's and such. Just try fresh locations, not all firms are like peas in a pod on how they operate.
IMO Civil Engineers are likely to do more hand on. You could start your own firm. Do construction testing, plans, etc. Most engineers I enjoy known do forget going on for how the real world works once they've be cloistered in the organization a number of years...

I be in the exact same boat as you. As an aero plan NOT working for an aircraft manufacturer, my complete life consisted of looking up other people's calculation in a encyclopaedia, then re-typing them onto a form, calling the businesswoman for confirmation.
Get a PE if you want to do actual engineering work, that's pretty much the only course anyone will accept the liability of trusting someone doing engineering work.
PS - I get my MBA instead and completely chucked engineering.

It depends on the age of your kids. You can not truly work at home and lift up a baby or toddler. They require method too much attention to do a proper job for your employer. If you own elementary age kids - 8-9 or older, it can be done as they can be supervised near directions on how to do something and don't need the hand on and therefore you can work.
I worked from home for roughly speaking 2 years, they were 10 and 12 and it worked ably. They were competent to make their own snack - appreciably didn't need diapers changed, They pretty much did their piece with me individual right there for them to ask me go-ahead and make sure they don't do anything unsafe.

No it isn't. Children do not read between the lines the concept of being employed and cannot differentiate between you man there for them and you mortal there "at work". When you are gone, they know that they do not enjoy access to you but when you are at home, their expectation is to have access to you. So if you create a situation where on earth you are at home but they cannot have access to you, consequently that can be confusing, and it can cause resentment.
When I be a child my mother would sometimes attempt to do activities next to my sibblings and I while watching TV. But she would get so consumed beside what was on tube that she would ignore us. That would frustrate us because we expected her interaction. She be "there" but her focus was on the box program we felt neglected.

I chew over in most cases hardwork pays sour, even if one isn't too smart, but in other cases, if you don't enjoy the brain for it, no matter how much work you do, you won't variety it. For example, you do have to enjoy a certain rank of intelligence to become a doctor. If I wanted to become a dr., even if I worked my tail past its sell-by date I couldn't do it because I'm not that smart!

Whether it can or not depends on the situation. I believe that easier said than done work and a genuine desire to remodel goes alot farther than intellegence. I'm a mentor and I've noticed that the ones that do really powerfully and get polite grades are not always the fluently gifted and smart students, sometimes the smart ones slack rotten and get overconfident and the little ones the study firm and ask questions come out on top.
In today's workplace firm work can achieve plentifully. When coupled with the right self-esteem, it achieves more. When coupled beside the right social skills, you have a recipe for nouns even if the person have only average intelligence.
A human being who recognizes solid skills in another and help to promote those skills almost always reap some type of reward without asking for it.
