Careers Employment Questions and Answers

Is this a work place infringement? Can I sue?

Question:
Ok First of all I live within upstate, New York, so it has to be NY's Labor law. But this is what hapend.

August 2004, I get a strange job at a local printing company by the dub of Web Graphics in Queensbury, NY. My situation was a printing press apprentices. I be learning to run a contraption called a 2-up/saddle binder which made little pamphlet sized books. Ok, All is obedient, I am puting paper contained by the machine correctly, no jam, and the books come out only as they should. Two people are at the unloading end and box them up and bring them to the warehouse for shipping prep. Ok this is where on earth the problem is, my trainer totally ignores me, and walk around to talk to other general public and does not teach me anything roughly speaking my job. Then after roughly a week or so the managers telephone me into there department for a "meeting" which I had a few of theese. They enlighten me that I am not operating the machine corectly and I should not be loading weekly into it myself. Then they make a extremly sexest remark .

Answer:
If it have been a few years, the statute of limitations for file a suit has probably already expired (it's across the world three years.)

The sexist remark is certainly derogatory; however, it is wretchedly not illegal (stupid, but not unauthorized.) What IS illegal is firing an member of staff who is doing his best to ensure that a work order is individual completed correctly, even going so far as to perform the function of another hand in proclaim to make this occur.

I'm not sure what the company was thinking here - my singular guess is that if it was a league shop, perhaps loading the quality newspaper was a commission that was designated differently and needed to be perform by another individual (much as specialized piano movers must be called contained by to a union acting rather than using the stagehands to move the piano.)

At any rate, it have been reasonably some time since this occurred; whether or not a hint of the original population involved in the incident are still near the company is probably questionable; memories and specifics tend to fade with time; and within is probably not much to be gained by you any professionally or personally by pursuing litigation. I would steal it as a lesson learned and delight in being contained by a new work environment where on earth your employer hopefully values your work ethic and dedication to getting the job done correctly.
Did you update the managers something like the trainer not being next to you all the time?
want more info to answer your question.
Let it progress dude, you won't get anything by suing that will defend your effort and the animosity you will earn from adjectives employers.
The sexist remarks by themselves are worth suing. As for the completely ignore you part, I'd bargain to an attorney to see if it's worth suing. But I'd still defiantly sue for the sexist remarks.
It sounds approaching they were trumping up a purpose to let you budge.
Just move on, son. You wouldn't want to work where on earth the management doesn't approaching you, would you? They don't owe you a living and you don't owe them another thought.
I'm not sure from your description if anything happened to you approaching losing your job, getting a take-home pay cut, or a disciplinary record. If this be the situation, then you might own a case. If you are a moment ago upset that they had a get-together and corrected you for something you didn't know you were doing, in good health, that's why it sucks to work for dumb people, and it's major to find a job where on earth you're happy.

If you do eventually steal the case to court, you will enjoy a better shot if you demonstrate that you attempted to work the problems out another way first. This is more beneficial to you surrounded by any case.

So I would sit down near your trainer or the manager(s), whatever seem most appropriate, and explain that you were not informed that you be operating the machine incorrectly, and you'd close to to make sure that you get the drift the correct procedure and that you know who to go to if you hold questions.

You could voice you would have like to have be informed sooner, and ask if you should be checking in near your trainer more often/if your trainer should be checking on more often. You may discover that in that was a misinterpretation or some flaw contained by the process.

If you don't get anywhere and you did suffer significant consequences from this incident, consequently you may want to get a attorney. If you're just annoyed, I'd find another work.
Its been a couple of years so very soon you probally dont have a shield but they probally only hired you as a temp and if you be let walk on your 90 day probation time of year then their is zilch you can do.This happened to me at the philly airport as a mechanic the best they ever see but I put their (union Mechanics )in their place kinda made them look stupid so they let me walk on the 90 day point and their is nothing you can do around it.Its the law,They can agree to you go for any rationale.

Finding a different living contained by IT - experienced/skilled but not qualified?

Question:
Please help! My boyfriend have worked in IT for the ending eight years (he's an Analyst Programmer). He got the opportunity originally as an office junior on going away school, worked his method up and is well respected by his employer. He requirements to move jobs and, maybe unwisely but it's a bit late presently, handed contained by his notice.

The problem is, he have no useful contacts surrounded by the industry and doesn't know how "other people" go more or less finding work. He isn't getting calls from the agencies and he think it is because he is not a graduate and has no IT testimonial on paper.

I really want to give support to but I don't know how! I'm trying to come up with different suggestions roughly where he could look or what he could try, but I've run out of design. He only have four more weeks before he's out of work.

Where should he look (on or past its sell-by date the internet)? Where do people surrounded by IT get their job from? Who are the big employers? Do they adjectives want graduates? Or should he a moment ago keep plugging away at the agencies and be lenient?

Answer:
Hello,

(ANS) I worked in the computer & IT industry for over 10years and very soon I'm over 40 nobody wants to exercise me. Despite my many years of experience & an MCSE surrounded by windows which cost me a three digit sum of money a few years ago.

**OK!! some tips & pointers:-

1) Avoid internet recruitment companies such as "computer futures" several of these agences are dreadfull & will spin you a pack of lies or rip you off. Your boy friend will be treated approaching a commodity or just another piece of meat surrounded by the cattle market.

2) Be alert when it comes to recruitment companies as they other have the own agenda, which is as a rule a nice BIG FAT commission fee if they can place you contained by a job. They will even place a creature in a crap or unsuitable commission just to procure their fee.

3) You MUST be utterly believable the IT industry is notoriously, ageist, sexist, racist and full of pretty bigotted people who are highly small minded unless thats changed recently?

4) Despite what others might utter IT is without doubt a childlike guys game, & although the age bias is varying its still dreadful. Difficult if your over 30yrs especially.

**However a good recruiter, employer will recognise a hopeful skilled IT person by their sheer logical knowledge. If you really do know your techical stuff it should shine out surrounded by any interview (formal or informal). Good IT people who really know at hand subject are still in short supply, in that is an ocean of peole who mull over they know their IT but dont in realness. So bear this within mind.

**Make sure your boy friend stays as upto date as possible with the hottest industry trends & moves & changes. Such as knowing MS Vista for example.

**Do return with some new skills, achieve books & study in his free time, if you enjoy the money & time get on some spanking new IT or computer related courses to boost his skillset or range of comprehension.

**Look in local reporters for local IT work.

**Know what you want & what your looking for.

**Be utterly realistic in the order of how big or small a salary you can ask or expect from an employer.

**Your boy friend might find he can draw from short term contract work, doing project guidance or such like.

Hope that help?

Best Regards IR
Well, it depends on how fast he wishes a new commission. For his skills, he could do freelancing and many of the projects pay cheque quite all right. I've worked on some projects that pay a few thousands that with the sole purpose require 20 days' work. The only tricky part is to procure the projects. I personally use benefito.com.
Tell him to apply for job even if he has no testimonial. Go in in attendance and prove himself with his scholarship of hands on experience. Its a moment or two intimidating when you go up against someone who have every degree and diploma nominated. But you'd be surprised at the employers who will look at his CV and if he's timetabled everything he can do and he's willing to revise new things--it really go a long way and he stand every karma. I'm sure some people who hold spent time earning their recommendation have worked awfully hard, but within this day and age...its not everything! In the US a scope in College used to guarantee you a great available job...now it way nothing!

Keep encouraging him and you hold your chin up too! *S* best of luck to you both.

Are students of the University of Phoenix within?

Question:
I would like to start to study online by University of Phoenix and would close to to get to know students or former students expecially in business.
Thanks

Answer:
I am a student at the University of Phoenix online. I be taking business courses, but changed to health direction. You can email me if you like. What do you want to know?
I did my masters at AIU, which is one and the same concept and my husband did his Bachelors there, both surrounded by business. It fit our schedule and they worked in good health with us!
UoP is regard as a joke at most reputable businesses. Read this article...

"It's not event for us to say "you made a mistake". The University of Phoenix is intensely adept at spinning the accreditation story. Like all university, they do have regional accreditation. However, they haven't be able to support program/professional accreditation. And all of the best business point programs now pass both regional and professional accreditation from an accrediting body that's be approved by the Department of Education. A program accreditation to look for is Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International. It's considered to be one widely accepted standard surrounded by the market for business background. Another to consider is the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

Aside from accreditation, your biggest concern should be how employers panorama degree teaching and where it comes from. Employer organization are beginning to "basically say no" to old pupils of for-profit education businesses. Two examples prove this trend. First, there's a mobilization software company, owned by the Washington Post, called BrassRing that have publicly stated that companies are now penetrating for candidates and specifically eliminate certain school from their employee check out. BrassRing is able to track this trend because several significant corporations they work with on mobilization are excluding graduates of for-profit school in their hiring scrabble criteria.

Secondly, during the last 12 months, our machinery has asked company executives at the most reputable HR industry conferences more or less hiring and promotion activity related to populace holding online degrees. Our 12-month study suggests for-profit institution popularity is slipping as company standards increasingly send for for quality, well-educated candidate. For more statistics that track this trend see this 12 month corporate preference study.

Ultimately, much of your divine intervention depends upon where these movements verbs to head and how inhabitants knowingly perceive them. We're a group that neither care to nor earns a living past its sell-by date from making predictions. However, this much is factual. To date, the following organization have publicly stated that the University of Phoenix (as do various for-profit education businesses) have problems: U.S. Department of Education (which fined UofP for $9.8 million); EduVentures; Inc. Magazine; BrassRing (owned by The Washington Post); accrediting bodies such as AACSB; and reputable organization like Education Commission of the States (ECS).

If your desire with rearing is to apply what you're learning towards landing a better commission or career and if word continues to travel going on for how employer organizations shun former students from UofP and other for-profit schools, it might be best to re-evaluate your choice.

First of all, write out adjectives the reasons why you deserve a lift.

Then make an appointment beside your boss, to ask for this raise.
Do it sensibly, matter of factly, and business resembling, explaining why you're more valuable to the company than they're paying you for.

Also, opt whether or not you're going to hand within your notice if your elevate is denied. If you are going to do this, have the written spy ready to mitt them. If they deny your raise, simply shake hand and thank them for hearing you out.
This is major because you don't want to leave the company next to hard emotional state as this may affect the recommendation they make a contribution you when you apply at another company.
Most often, you're informed in 3 days after turning in your identify, that they no longer need you.

You nouns like someone they can't replace adjectives that easily.

Always act and dress within a professional manner. Speak clearly and loud adequate to be heard. If you work on percentage, ask for a slightly larger percentage. If you are stipend ask for a slight increase. The reason for this is psychological, it let them know you feel you are doing a angelic job. They will appropriate notice and respect you if you respect yourself and others.
Welcome to the work force.

Nobody will appreciate you as much as you regard they should. Just do your job as ably as you can and keep your eyes unseal for something better.

How much could I earn making beaded jewely?

Question:
Let's assume that it's really nice. I'm talking just about necklaces, earrings, bracelets, anklets, etc. Has anyone tried to run a business like this making them by appendage and going to craft fairs, selling on consignment, and such. I'm lately curious what someone could make doing this full time?

Answer:
You can earn a nice amount, but it does steal time and money to start up the business and build up a clientele. I have be doing it for about a year and I earn in the order of $200 a week. I do not do it full time as I am SAHM, but it is good for extra money. I pocket alot of time with my jewelry to engender sure that it is exactly the way I want it. You achieve better prices with better materials as ably, so I use only the best. My initial outlay for materials and study supplies (I didn't take any classes) be about $500. It took me give or take a few a month to learn adjectives of the basic technique down pat, and I was competent to start selling pieces that were professional element in just about 3 months. I suppose if I had a nice network site and a store and all that I could clear more, but I honestly don't have time for it. I hold seen women whip the classes and open a store next to website and do very very well for themselves, but they usually don't start turning a profit for at least 6 months or so, depending on if they enjoy other artists working with them and how much their outlay is for rent and anything. Good Luck
my sister did that

I think her rent be like $200, for her kith and kin, they did manage to carry food I think
not plenty to live off of, but i'm sure it would provide you some extra spending money.
you could most likely variety enough for a weeks worth of groceries per sunshine depending on how much you sell them for. my cousin did that and he said he made just about $200 a day.
dunno but you could provide on ebay

Congrats on the new livelihood!
That first one is yours, if you declare for the subsequent two weeks, that is considered fraud, and they will bring in you pay it rear. Contact them and let them know, if you lose the opening it will be easier to reapply.
