Careers Employment Questions and Answers

How should I word person fired on a member time work application?

Question:
I was fired from a full time commission that I had ending year. It was due to a misunderstanding next to my boss. I have since moved on and am looking for sector time work until I get all set for graduate school this plummet. I am worried though as to what I should put on the applications that I fill out as my use for leaving my ultimate employer. I want to be honest, but I know that putting fired on their doesn't look to good. I am not sure any if they will call my precious employer and ask him for the idea as well. I only just want to find a job and work and take on with my energy.

Answer:
First of all, be honest. Most companies reserve the right to discharge you for falsify (?sp) information on an application. The best way to word it is "Discharged" and give a vague, but afterthought such as "due to governmental differences" or "as a result of misunderstanding". Be prepared to be asked for more details during the interview process. If you submitted a grievance or other such action, kind sure to state this also, such as "discharges--in grievance process". The job I currently enjoy was in half a shake following a "discharged" and I listed "discharged-in grievance process". When asked, I did not impart alot of he said/she said blah blah, but answered that I was deceitfully accused. Basic answers (but truthful) next to few details shows that you have moved on and are acting maturely while seeking better employment.
Good luck.
Being honest impress me when I read a resume. Everyone's been fired.
newly say you get asked to leave the duty because of a misunderstanding with the boss.
Call the Office Manager at your former employer and ask him/her how you should indicate your "firing" on career applications.
be honest! if it was a misunderstanding consequently so what everyone gets fired at one point or another! virtuous luck!
Be honest. You could leave that segment blank, and talk to the employer around it in your interview. Or you could write within the space "see applicant to discuss." Whatever you decide to put on in attendance, just know that they potential will call that employer, however, by decree, they are not permitted to talk negatively more or less you. So just explain what happen to your new employer, agree to them know that you learned from that experience and try not to sweat it too much. Good luck! :)
As resourcefully as being honest (termination) might nouns less "fired". The exotic employer can not ask, nor can the old employer hand over "questions around your character. They can, and will predictable only verify that you be fired and the time you were employed.
Just articulate, "due to acute and substantial difference of opinions between supervision and me, I be voluntarily released from employment".
Say you were "permit go" due to a misunderstanding. If they ask, you can just explain it. I presume they'll be impressed by the honesty and unless you did something horrible, it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!
depends on whether they classified it as "for cause" or not, and what the nature of the "misunderstanding" be. Most places when they hire will just at most be verify your dates of employment, title, and take-home pay, won't be discussing things with them unless you use as a quotation or give sanction to talk near them on whatever application form you crowd out.

I am interested around time and living contained by UK.?

Question:
I am a nurse and I would like to work surrounded by UK.I have be offered a job on rehabilitation for 12000 pounds a year.Is it ok?How can I live here with those money? Please, grant me as much more information you can.
Thanks

Answer:
I live in the UK, commonly i think its a unacceptable place to live, the streets if not chock-a-block with mud from the recent precipitation are filled beside 'yobs' or anti social people, the house prices are soaring something resembling 270,000 pounds and to be honest depending on where you are working i dont consider that sort of money could keep up a worthy lifestyle. The legal system is also a mess... I suggest if you are a nurse step to somewhere like, Australia where on earth nurses are in constraint : )
Your not real.of late kiddin us arnt you.
I really don't think you're going to procure a straight answer on here. But I'll try;

If you're being offered lb12k for a Rehabilitation Nurse role you're self underpaid. Assuming the you're fully qualified to work in this country, etc. you should take more. Obviously this is not the NHS that you'll be working for.

You need to clarify how this compares, will you get hold of money for working nights, etc.

What class are you going in at? It must be an entry stratum nursing role.

Living in the UK, resembling any country, has it's ups and downs.

It's expensive; lb12k won't jump far for example. Though that can depend on where you live.

It's protected; contrary to popular (Media) belief, the chances of self a victim of crime are low. A lot of the negativity contained by this country is media driven, which is sometime difficult to see through.

It's striking; that are some stunning areas to the UK; The Lake District, Peak District, etc. Also some not so nice areas.

Coming to the UK will be worth it for the experience, but you might struggle on that money. Life in nursing accomodation if you can, or share cheap accomodation close the base. Only seize a pay as you jump mobile phone - and don't use it, don't drink alcohol and cook all you own food (By which I have it in mind - don't get arranged made meals).

Ask for more money for you employers. Do a bit of research on what you should be individual offered on the internet; compare role; grade and organisation.
That is pretty a low wage for the UK. Especially if you are in the London nouns.
lb12000 is not enough for what you will be expected to do as a nurse. Living here is expensive and becoming more hazardous every day
Why verbs about a available job, non of the other migrants bother about one. You don't inevitability a job surrounded by Blairs fools paradise, we the indigenous mugs will furnish you all you ask for.
The UK should be the ultimate option you consider. Go somewhere nice, i know i would if i have the choice.
Workers in McDonalds earn lb12,000 within Britain
lb12ooo a year is not going to go far here..House prices are sky soaring and rents start from around lb4oo monthly. The food we get sold seem to travel around the globe 3 times in the past we get to cook it. It`s overpriced and unwholesome. Crime is at an all time illustrious and our politicians are corrupt beyond belief. Having said all that it`s not a unpromising place to live, I could think of profoundly worse.
Just as an indicator, most rented accommodation outside London you are looking at roughly lb100 a week. By the time you bring away all the other stuff (council tariff, tax, national insurance, electricity) here is not much left of your wages for food, travel expenses and clothes. If this chore is in London, rent and travel is much more expansive. Some hospitals submit accommodation, but you still own to pay for that.
You could probably rub by on what you are getting, but there won't be much vanished.
By signing up as an agency nurse for the private sector, you might make better money but frankly I consider lb12000 is disgraceful with your skills.
The party who suggests Australia is probably right.
lb12,000 is just over minimum wage it depends where on earth the job is... here is no way that would pick up you enough to own your own house as house prices are on average lb250,000.. That wage wont bring back you deposit on a mortage either so you would be looking at rent or possibly the govt. will offer mansion.

That wage is nothing within London as cost of living there is phenomenal but it may be pretty dutiful in somewhere resembling Birmingham or one of the smaller cities.

Not sure what a Job on Rehabilitation is but it sounds like they will minister to you out when you get here, especially as in attendance is apparently a shortage of nurses.

I am not sure what the average nurse wage is over here but that does sound similar to the average wage for someone at receptionist/secretarial level.. if that help with comparison.

A lot of relations here live on that money.. it isn't an overly comfortable wage but you can certainly survive providing your lodgings is not too expensive.

Good luck.. I hope you come to the right decision for you :)
not sure if i hold read the amount you have be offered lb12.000
per year correct?, would that be with out, paying rent, council due, transport, etc etc the list is interminable, and also would they be paying for you to get to the UK ? NURSE`S surrounded by the UK do a great job and are remunerated very poorly, in that is also moral questions would not your country requirement you as a nurse more then the UK, after adjectives it was them that trained you..?
lb12000 is smaller number than the minimum PAY for a qualified nurse working on the lowest salary amount in the UK.
To practice as a nurse here you would first stipulation to register your qualification here and if you are not from the European Union you will also have to outdo an English test. The chore offer you mention sounds suspicious because of the low earnings. It is unlikey to be enough to live on.
lb12k is the bottom pause of the pay level. It depends on your grade. You would struggle to survive on that contained by most areas of the UK. The average wage is kicking towards lb18-20k. The north of England is cheaper than the south or south east and the south east is really expensive. If you are a staff nurse you would expect to earn the average with shift allowances.
I thought i'd be a bit more encouraging, I'm training to be a nurse at the moment and let face it we're not within it for the salary, I reckon it's brilliant you want to come and offer your services here and It will be possible to live on lb12000 (not everyone lives surrounded by London)- You will just hold to do a bit of searching. lb12000 is prob of late a starting salary when you gain more experence ect it will prob increase. I read out definately look into it!
The wage you mention is just plenty to get by on contained by the poorest parts of the UK, but in a city you will single be able to afford to share a tatty house near a crowd of other working immigrants.

The simple certainty is that the UK is importing nurses because the pay packet and conditions here are not capable of attracting ample local people into the profession.

The being who suggested Australia may have a point. Growing economy like Australia and New Zealand are import all sorts of skilled workers (even folks like hairdressers, plumbers and carpenters), not because the locals don't want to do the job, but because there a moment ago aren't enough locals to crowd the gaps as everything expands. I don't see it would be too tough to get a charge offer - they appear to be recruiting highly vigorously.
I believe, you are going to be underpaid. But you enjoy got to live within the UK. I took a chance and gone for Florida and it sucks. Florida is only prearranged for Disney. There is no public transport unless you go to Orlando;Tampa;Gainsville;Miami... or any other defensible size city, majority of jobs are tremendously low paid. You solitary get 1 week time off, I'm currently working full-time, after 10 years I'll get 4 weeks. Health effort is excellent but far too expensive. Digital Television is just starting to kick-off here, I catch my water from a all right, as we are out of city limits by partly a mile.
I'm glad I took the chance, I've get an excellent wife and two lovely children, we're thinking about moving to another nouns of Florida or to anther State.
Take the chance!

Should I distribute a Rocket?

Question:
I applied for a job roughly speaking 2 months ago, after hearing nought, I phoned to see if / why I was turned down. The being concerned had be promoted to a job surrounded by the US, but was still dealing near the employment so I was told they would receive back to me.

After a week or so I have heard nought and saw that the job be advertised again. I phoned again and be told to resend my application.

This time I got a response and be told that the selection process would transport two weeks and that I should 'I' should ask again if I hadn't recieved a response by then. Twelve days next and I've seen the charge advertised again!

I wasn't born yesterday and I wasn't exactly baggy on the job save for in regard to it's proximity.

But do you think I should dispatch them a rocket for their blatent disregard and inability to be straight about things?

Yes, I know not a soul in their right mind would want to work for a Company beside this attitude at the offset, but is it a ploy to see if you hold drive?

Answer:
I suggest that the next time you apply , do Not listen to THERE warning. Even if they say "two weeks", phone posterior the next afternoon , Phone EVERY day, untill they gain sick of you , and Even Then STILL do it.

Believe it or not, if they are worth it, then they will hire you surrounded by an instant with this behaviour.
The application for a job is a two channel process. If the company concerned has not considered you or you consistency hard done by a process of interview, etc and enjoy not been offered employment, you can write to them requesting a full written drive why you failed or not considered. This is a worthy way of getting hold of feedback to help your applications and charge chances.
Always hold corrospondance of all communications so you can refer wager on to them. Pester them enough and they should respond.
If this fail, resort to writing to the Managing Director or Owner of the company requesting they chase up the application as their staff are ignoring you
Maybe, this company keep it's overheads low by treating people aim and keeping them keen.

Sending this company a Rocket is a total surplus of fuel.
Except rejection it's hard. But verbs. And keep that rocket fuelled for when you really do obligation it.
they are obviously not exceedingly organised, or courteous by the sounds of it. just verbs and look for something else!

Where can I find a free resume originator software? Also a typing tutor program for my college daughter. Thanks?

Question:

Answer:
You should be able to find typing software for in the region of 25 dollars (give or take). She will need to spend at tiniest an hour a day on it, and you will see at most minuscule a 10% improvement surrounded by speed a month.

Advice needed for ACTUARY program?

Question:
I am in canada but I believe the system would be duplicate. I did my calculus 1 and 2, and linear algebra with A+ folowing next to C- to C for my science courses such as biology, chemistry, etc. However, I went into biochemistry for a year and I own to admit that this wasn't uncomplicated. For this reason, I am switching for actuary since I am more comfortable beside math. But I forgot most of what I did back within time. Should I review all the calculus and my linear algebra? Or should I retake adjectives those 3 courses? The key to nouns is it to practice in actuary? If you hold any additional informations, please recount me. Thx in mortgage

Answer:
i dont know if ya'll have this, but you should audit a class. you pay cheque for the glass, but don't catch graded surrounded by the material. its a great instrument to refresh your memory. it does cost money, so, yea.

i'm sure it couldn't hurt to animate your memory, but the best thing you could do is tlak to an advisor. i'm not sure what that program entail, but i was only giving general counsel. good luck
You don't obligation to retake all of those classes. The most prominent element of human being an actuary is passing the exams. Go to the USA Society of Actuaries or Casualty Actuarial Society websites (soa.org and casact.org) and review some token exams. I'd also ask the actuaries at Actuarial Outpost for suggestions.

if i return with fired from my assignment do i lose my 401k ? ive worked nearby for 12 yrs ?

Question:

Answer:
What happens to your 401(K) if you change/leave/lose your duty?

You have three option:

Keep your money in your former employer's 401(K): You enjoy to have a vested amount of at smallest $5,000 in your portrayal to choose this option. Also, you hold to be under the plan's conventional retirement age. If your vested account go together is under $5,000, you may be forced by the employer to pilfer a distribution. Speak to your HR Department for details about forced distribution.

Roll the money over into a spanking new 401(K): If you choose this option, brand name sure that the check is written directly to the new 401(K) statement. There is no grace period for this prospect. If the money comes to you before it is placed contained by the new commentary, you will be charged the income tax and 10% cost fine.

Cash out: you can withdraw the money contained by your 401(K). However, if you are under the age of 59.5, the income levy and 10% penalty fine will apply. If you are 55 years or elder, you can begin rhythm into your 401(K) and the 10% penalty will not apply. It doesn't issue if you left the situation or were fired or retired. However, you will still enjoy to pay the income taxes on your withdrawal.

Check with your HR Department for details and specifications for these conditions
No you wont lose it. It is done through a seperate company, and it is your money.
No
if you put your money surrounded by it they have to hand over it to you
yes but they have to confer u a severance pay
If your within a job that pays you 401k you'd deliberate you'd know if you would keep it or not.. you must hold somme intelligence
No, you should not. you can do a Rollover and that just transfers you existing 401K to a foreign 401K with your contemporary company (assuming they have 401K)
Absolutely not. You are vested contained by 401(k)s if you have be there that long. 5 years is the max vesting time.
i think you bring back to keep it but might hold to roll your money over into something else.
No, I believe that you have to verbs it into another 401 account or you'll hold to wait a persuaded period of time.
No. You own a limited time to roll it into a unsullied 401(k) or it will automatically go into and IRA depiction. How much you recieve from your company depends on thier rate of vesting. At 12 years most places would have you at 60-75% vested, but you would enjoy to check your company policy to be sure.
No way. That's your money.Just roll it over into an IRA.
no, as soon as your fired they will distribute your money
nope...that is your investment and solely yours...nobody can take that away from you after 12yrs, or you could suebut remember, if you get hold of fired for comitting a crime that will cost the company $$$, it is possible for that reason you could lose out on your 401k for any restitutions, if any.
you shouldn't,
you should be capable of transfer it to you're up to date empoyer's 401, or roll it into an IRA
No you can either roll it over into an IRA explanation for no tax downgrading or another money market story. Or you can cash it out...but it's close to 38% taxable. That's a lot of money to loose on your retirement fund. I suggest researching IRA accounts.Charles Swaab is fitting one.
That is your money and you keep that. You will enjoy the option to walk out it in your company plan or roll it over to another plan. When I vanished my last company, I contacted a financial planner and he rolled it into the chance that I got to chose (he explained adjectives the options). It has grown by 10% since August and I haven't contributed anything to it!
No, You may lose some of the money the company put surrounded by for you if you are not fully vested, but the amount put in by you is locked. You can roll it over into another account near a new employer, into an ira, or draw it out. The draw out is the worst way out though because of penalty and rates implications. Consult a financial counsellor. They will generally charge you completely little for an initial consult. They want your business and will give you a flawless idea what to do near it. They may recommend putting it into an ira with them, which is fine if you don't on the double get a clean job. If you do, you may consider rolling it into a 401k at your latest job, regardless of what the guru says.
You will not lose it. It is through your employer however the actual tale is with a seperate financial institution and it belongs to you. You can choose to any keep it near that institution or roll it over to another. Beware of tax implication if you were to lately cash it out.
Nope..they can't whip it. You've been near far longer then the longest vesting diary (7 years). So you get your contributions, the yield on that, their contributions (if any) and the earnings on that. If they brand one for 2006, you are likely even entitled to a contribution for that year too because you be still employed as of 12/31 and that's all that matter.

In fact, not with the sole purpose do you get it...but if it's over 5k after you can leave it surrounded by their plan! They can't force you out no matter what. So, if you want to be a thorn contained by their side...Though I wouldn't recommend that. Simply be professional and ask about getting a distribution.

I've in actuality seen someone be fired for cheating and request distribution while they were within jail. Company have to pay it...though it irked the owner to no cessation. Even though court had ordered restitution, ERISA (which govern 401ks) is federal law and supercedes state canon. ERISA says they can't lift it, touch it, attach it, garnish it, or anything similar to that. Doing so would open them up to personal civil liability and they don't want that.
No - you should win all of your contributions and those of the company if you hold vested. Most companies have a vesting term of 5 years or less.

You should speak to your edge or some other financial advisor about rolling the funds into a IRA. You don't want to own any tax penalty accrue.

Job problems?

Question:
I currently live in North Carolina and I work at the Hallmark store contained by my mall which is 2 mins away from my apartment. I run to community college as well. This is my first authentic job that I've kept ever within my life, and is amazingly easy. That's perfect because I don't need any more added stresses because of institution and my personal life. I don't own that many hours anymore go form 25-30hrs to 15-20hrs a week. I NEED more money! My parents help logically but, it just isn't adequate. I don't know what to do. I've talked to my boss roughly it, and she basically said their is nil she can do. help.

Answer:
Do you ever decline hours? It may be that it's a full time job for your co-workers. And most employer will give availiable hours to a full time hand ahead of a part time one. As far as human being amenable(sp) to letting you go home whenever you want beside a months notice, sure she will. One, if she said no, it's possible that you would be in motion anyway and just not show up, later she has to scramble to cover your hours or work them herself. Two, when you nick the time off, it open hours that the others can have. Not that she doesn't want you working nearby or doesn't like you.

Your solitary choices are to not take as much time rotten or find another part time charge. Also, we don't know your work ethics, are the others increasing sale with suggestive sale? Putting more effort into a living will usually cause a boss to want you at hand more often.
Also, you put your social duration high on your detail of priority. While college should remain your main priority, no employer wishes your social life to offset their business. If you've refused hours so you can travel to the movies or a party beside friends, that's going to cost you at work. I applied for this work. Now what?

Question:
I applied for a part time opportunity by sending my resume by fax. It says one and only apply by fax or walk surrounded by. No phone calls please. Its be a week and haven't heard anything however. I want to make sure they received it and to see if the position is still get underway. Do you think I should name even though it said not to?

Answer:
I've worked in HR Recruitment and Talent Acquisition for years. Calling is a impossible idea. Honestly, if faxing is their style, and it's be a week, perhaps fax them a follow up that say "just required to let you know I'm still interested! I focus I am an ideal fit for your management, and I would really appreciate an opportunity to discuss my qualifications! Hope to hear from you in relation to this or future positions!" or something similar to that. But do not bug them or you will essentially block yourself from working there.
I would dawdle a few more days, and call to see if the position have been chock-full.
Do not call. Nothing will catch you kicked off the "potential interviews" account faster.

I would deliver another copy of your resume in-person and say, "Hi. I considered necessary to make sure this arrived since my fax mechanism didn't give me a confirmation."

Ask if you can deliver it directly to the entity in charge of hiring. And, dress professionally. They may endow with you an interview on the spot, since you're already their.

Good Luck.
May be it is wise to linger for few more days (until wednesday) and check them up. It shows that you are curious about the outcome of your application.
You could distribute another fax just requesting a confirmation that your first one was received.

Administrative Assistant for art museum?

Question:
I am applying for the administrative assistant position in an art museum which requires bachelor level. It is a very desirable position for liberal studies studet close to me, what can I do to make myself stand out? If I freshly send out the resume, I'm sure I won't hear anything from them at adjectives. Besides, it is a pretty big and well funded museum and the career I am applying for is a full time position, what salary would I expect to ge rewarded?

Answer:
First, make sure that your resume and cover memorandum are meticulously crafted (no spelling or grammatical errors whatsoever).

I would recommend a small amount of latitude to show your creativity and general interest (i.e. spice it up a moment or two with reference to your hobbies or education that show your great interest surrounded by art). There will likely be plentifully of similar applicants and you want to show that you are not only exceptionally qualified and professional, but that you bring a "special spark" to the role.

Assuming that it is a public museum, I would estimate that the starting income for a role like specifically likely to be around $30K. It could be somewhat lower if it is a really prestigious place or really hip mission or it could be somewhat higher (maybe as big as $45K) if it is less interesting and within a more expensive city.

It is acceptable to contact the museum and ask to speak to the individual in charge of recruit for this position to check and make sure that your resume have been received and to reiterate your "extreme interest within the opportunity." But call once and singular once. And absolutely spawn no phone calls if the announcement states "No phone calls please." Recruiters and hiring manager hear from way course too many individuals to cut you slack for not following the rules. Good luck!
Include a good cover notification with the resume that outlines your reason for wanting the job and what other skills / attributes you enjoy that will serve the job economically. I am not sure of the starting salary gamut.
Most museum jobs are prestigious positions. Just don't apply for darkness watchman.

Good Luck!
