Quitting because you be being stressed falls under the moral fibre of a "constructive discharge" (you quit because the work environment was so mortified and you felt that you have no alternative.)
Asking for the job stern depends on several factors -
1) have the situation that made you want to quit in the first place be resolved?
2) if not, how will it be resolved? Otherwise you will finish up leaving again within a short while.
3) Was HR trying to resolve the issue when you quit? Or were they blowing it rotten?
4) Are you sure that the company will want you back again (were you a well brought-up performer, surrounded by a critical job, not replaced but, etc.?)
If you were indeed worried into quitting, the company shoudl have taken steps to protect you and ensure that you be not retaliated against and/or that a constructive discharge situation was avoided. You don't distribute the nature of the maltreatment, so I can't give you specific proposal. It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask for a congregation with HR human being and try to talk through the situation within more detail.
