How pass¨¦ are they. If they are only a couple of years I would still telephone them and see if they are still willing to be reference for you.
Volunteering would be good but it would nick a while before they would know you capably enough to be a strong mention.
Maybe you could use your professors if they know you personally.
Also depending on the assignment they may even let you use your friends as reference. If you do this I suggest you use friends that will be professional so you don't lose your credibilty.

It depends on where you are applying...entry plane jobs unanimously don't do much more than calling past employer to verify that you worked there. You can use historic coworkers, supervisors, or customers as business references (even if you haven't worked surrounded by awhile). If the place where you are applying requires specific reference (say, one of your supervisors in former times year), they will specifically ask for it on the application or during the interview. If they don't specify, than you can use anyone you want for references. Volunteering surrounded by your spare time is a great way to show that you are doing something, even if you aren't getting remunerated for it, and it will definitely confer you references that you can use.

5) Try building up your network and have friends referring job postings at their companies to you
6) Recognize that sometimes it's adjectives about serendipity. You can be the best contender for the job and still not win the offer. There are oodles reasons and it's a short time ago the way it works.

I've be working as an at-home Medical Transcriptionist for a while now. I hear that an MT seminar was coming to town and go, out of curiosity. It was for At-Home Professions. Since I be already an MT, I asked a lot of question, about MT and the course, that I feel the attendees needed to know. The saleslady had, visibly, never typed an MT report in her vivacity! She was completely incompetent on the subject. In reality, she told me that their course 'was' AAMT approved. Of course, I corrected her. ;)
Rather than looking for an MT course that is ascribed, a hopefull MT needs to find one that have been approved by the AAMT (American Association of Medical Transcription). An attributed course may give you the uncertainty at a job in-house, but a card in Medical Transcription is not a point (simply a certificate). Therefore, whether the school is certified or not, is not as important contained by this field.
Most companies want 2-3 years experience. However, masses will waive this requirment if you graduate from an 'approved' school. I recommend CS: http://mteducationonline.com if you prefer to give the training another shot (they do tender scholarships and financial aid). I received a career offer smaller quantity than a week after graduating.
I've come across old pupils of other schools who own been incompetent to find jobs. That's why I can't stress satisfactory how important it is to do your research (this go for any field/wah opportunity).
Have you tried testing for a couple of National employer? I know there are masses who won't even let you check because of the course you took, but there are a few who will. If you hold tested, what are your scores? Is here an area you necessitate help surrounded by?
