A Bachelor's scope in a liberal arts subject mostly does not prepare a person for any specific type of commission. Instead, it's a step on the path towards more advanced degree.
Alternatively, the BA holder can get out into the work force and, starting from the ground up, build work experience contained by his/her field of choice. Eventually it may be possible to procure good positions base on prior work experience. The college degree is a nice mixing, but in this situation the work experience is the push button. This doesn't work for all job. Some jobs are restricted to relatives with specific types of formal schooling - this includes most teaching job and the learned professions.
If you settle on to pursue a higher scope, you must make sure it's the one that will comfort you get into the work of your choice. For example, if you continued in History and get your Master's, you would be qualified to teach at most community (2 year) colleges. If you get your PhD in History, you could also prepare and do research at the University level.
You may also know how to qualify for a program leading to an advanced level in a different discipline. In some cases your History scope would be adequate to draw from you in, but for others you would own to take some secondary undergraduate courses.
