Army have many places too.
Air Force as several places too, harder to get promoted inside Air Force than other services.
I joined the army to be a bilingual person at age 19 in 1989.
My experience:
I despicable the language university, DLI. I was contained by no way prepared to study Arabic for 6 hours a morning plus 2-3 hours of homework and do this for a YEAR. I partied as it be fun, but failed out of the course after roughly 5 months.
But I was 19. Luckily I get my security clearance surrounded by the meantime so they gave me an analyst opening that I was MUCH better at anyways. I am not bitter roughly this at all.
You will, unless it is strictly specified contained by the contract, be assigned a language, probably Arabic.
I be in the army but I will comment on this:
The army is really the one and only branch that will let you choose your specific available job. Marines, Air Force, and Navy will put you through school but assign you as they have need of to to a job slot.
I am NOT knock the other branches, merely pointing out that the Army is large plenty to allow some choices.
In regards to physically tough, the Air Force is largely regarded as easiest, but their deep-seated is much more mentally draining.
The marines are really hard core and probably not for everybody. If you want to be a multilingual person, I would not recommend the Marines. Again, don't get me wrong, I hold a HUGE amount of respect for the Corps. It just isn't for everybody, and I simply don't judge it is a good art track for linguists.
If you want to travel as a linguist, you would be best to step air force, but I am far from sure on this.

Remember that the contract you are signing is for EIGHT years. Part of that is to say active, and member is inactive. They CAN and currently ARE forcing associates to extend their active duty expressions right up to the limit of that eight years, even if you are slated to find out of active service.
The military is a great place to grow up though. I am glad I did it, and the linguistic skills will look perfect on your future resume. My analytic skills help me find work as an accountant after I got ample college under my belt.
LASTLY, HERE IS ADVICE I WISH I COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND GIVE MY 19 YEAR OLD SELF:
Save your money. You are immature, single, and your room and board are paid for, you can pick up massively for your retirement or future house purchase.
Get as much college money as you possibly can. DO NOT TAKE THE CASH ENLISTMENT BONUS. You will want to step to college, and you will need a LOT of money to dance. If you listen to nothing else I say-so, heed this one thing.
Start an IRA, roth preferably, and deposit the maximum allowed. Anything over that, salvage 50% cash surrounded by money markets, and 50% contained by a medium risk stock/bond portfolio.
