Question for Medical Transcriptionists who work from home...?

Question:
How does working from home work? Do you set your own schedule, or do you hold to work specific hours? i'd like to achieve into this field, but I own small kids at home, so a set schedule is not other easy.

Thanks for any input!

Answers:
I would resembling to know this as well. I'd also close to to know the average pay size. I would be making a career regulation and wondering if it is worth it. Also, how do you get into it? What training is required. A star for the sound out.
I tried this for a short time after my son be born. I'm not trying to discourage you, but if you don't have set times to yourself when you can work uninterrupted, you're not going to know how to do it. When I got into it I thought I'd be capable of do lots of the work overnight, but that wasn't the case. I couldn't gather round the deadlines and more importantly, the recompense was really crappy. During the 3 months I worked I made smaller quantity than $100.

If you have time during the light of day that you can set 2-3 hours aside and not be interrupted then stir for it. However, that set time during the day may not be when the work comes within.

Good luck!

If you're still interested visit www.mountainwestprocessing.com . That's who I worked next to.
I worked for a single doctor, so all this depends on what your situation would be.

My doctor be a small town type family doctor. He would "have a word his files" onto a mini tape recorder, and i would run to the bureau daily to pick up the tape. I would take them home and start typing. Usually i could own it done in just about 24 hours and i'd go the subsequent morning to get another.

I get paid by the hour, too, which can work for you, or against you. It depends on how swiftly they talk, and how graceful they are to understand. I did attain paid especially nicely, adjectives in adjectives. I made an average of about 300 a week.

Obviously it be like setting my own hours, but i did hold deadlines, which he be pretty hard core roughly speaking. But he was individual really upset if i didnt have ANYTHING for him.

I didnt enjoy kids, but i did watch my goddaughter as a fund up babysitter, and there be times where she only watched video all sunshine as i worked, but shes 9, so i guess it depends on age.

If you are going to do it like i did, from home, i definately recommend "splurging" for a nice transcription cartridge player from an office store, because of the footpedal, it make it SOOO much easier.

My doctor was complicated to understand sometimes, so bring back a medical terminology dictionary, and bookmark some webpages online that can sustain you with spellings. Also a drug suggestion handbook made my enthusiasm a lot easier next to drug spellings.

Good luck!
I've worked from home for 14 years. I suggest you do your research about the company: do they supply the computer? will you be remunerated by the line? If so, what does the company consider "a flash." How much will you be paid per dash? Will they pay you for "down" time? (a slow dictation time, a storm in your nouns that causes you to lose power, a really tough doctor w/a sticky accent that's easier said than done to understand, etc.), do you own DSL or cable for internet connection? If you requirement to supply your own computer, you should know that the latest interpretation of MS Windows is not always compatible w/the software from some transcription companies - ask their tech staff just about it. As for a schedule, you will DEFINITELY be on their diary. Most of these are S-Thur or Tues-Sat. Go for the day shift if at adjectives possible. Evening sucks as does night shift. You WILL carry sleepy beyond belief. If your children are not in institution and are hard to hang on to in column, you will not be productive. These transcriptions companies are about the $$ and you must produce. You must be an excellent speller, own a good education of medical terminology within all specialties b/c you will feasible have to transcribe for the medical documentation dept., & this will make you more marketable. (Learning adjectives specialities will come w/time. A good speciality to start next to is pathology or radiology. Their terminology never change and it's pretty easy to cram for beginners. This will get your confidence up. I wouldn't suggest you start w/neurology or hematology: DIFFICULT!!) Med. annals reports include operative notes, consults, history & physical (admission) transcription and discharge summaries. These reports will also have lab values. Some dictators have a word as fast as a gatlin gun and are rock-hard to understand. That's the bleak part. You must be disciplined - work from home as though you're surrounded by the office...resist the headset and TV. The good part of the pack is that you will save on daytime care expense, and the broad expense involved in working contained by an office. Look for a company that offer benefits (paid vac/sick/dental/life ins.) Most of these companies know you have small children and will generate some allowance but not much. You must be able to produce the work within a timely fashion w/3 errors or smaller quantity per report. It is not necessary to enroll surrounded by a school that teach med. transc. Take a night course (community ed course) & swot medical terminology. The trick is to revise prefixes and suffixes. Most companies require at least 2 yrs. experience since they'll hire you. If you've never done this type of work before, I suggest you start P-T; however, be prepared to supply your computer if you work P-T. Better still, look contained by the paper for a local hosp. or physician's bureau that's hiring so you can get used to the passageway a medical office runs. You can contact me any time almost any questions you may own.

When a work posting say "remunerated training", what exactly does this hint?

Question:
Don't all job pay you while you're training? I other think there's something fishy when I see a work posting that says "rewarded training".

Answers:
It means they are cheap and want to discharge you a "training wage" that is a fraction of the middle-of-the-road wage, and usually below the minimum wage.
My guess is that the job is a sale type job that pays commission single, but for the time of your training, they will pay you a regular wage.
Check up front on definition... It could have it in mind they pay for the training ONLY or they will retribution you (something) for your time while you are in the training program and next decide if they want to hire you.
I agree beside you. It sounds like you you would be doing similar to door to door sales and simply getting paid for inventory that you vend, or something like that. I am other weary of Paid training ad.
That means that they will payment you for training you. But I would call and ask them. Assuming does you no righteous.

Hello, the LI PI trial is not complicated and is pretty much based on broad knowledge, you don't stipulation to prepare or study as is nothing to do near the Shipping industry itself. It just method some indicators that will help HR relations place you in the right position in the company. How long did it whip you to complete your Medical Transcription course? What arts school did you use?

Question:

Answers:
I never took a MT course. I learned OJT (on-the-job-training). I be enrolled contained by mortuary college, could type well and made A/B contained by all my science courses. A dept. (Emory U) needed a med. transcriptionist. I'd never hear of it. B./C I could type so well, she skilled me. I sure would luv to know what happened to that sweet woman. Anyway, I ended up training med. trans. at a medical career college and it IS a big rip-off. These students start out school thinking they're gonna acquire hired. NOT. Many transcription companies are outsourcing for cheap labor. Don't waste your $$.
I worked as a Med Transcription for over 5 years, and i never took a course.

It depends on who you work for, really. I have medical background and could type pretty express (i go MUCH faster presently, though) and it was a small town doctor who i have a working relationship with. (i worked surrounded by a nursing home that he was on staff)

I own heard from collegues that some of those med trans school are giant rip offs, so make sure you research the ones you are looking at, first.

Currently a Ultrasound student at Sandford Brown explicitly recently official.?

Question:
I would like to know does anyone know of a facility contained by Georgia, that hires students in the ultrasound area. Also, I'm hearing that it's not to heaps jobs out here within Atlanta, is that true? And what is the starting pay. What shouldn't I except for foot before getting registered, and after what shouln't I except after being registered.

Answers:
ultrasoundjobs.com , as okay as all the chief sites like Monster.com , and hotjobs.com hold tons of listings from everywhere . It's true that the south in common is not typically a region known for ultrasound shortages , first and foremost because there are rather a few schools for ultrasound within the south , and essentially by accepting students on clinicals in the departments they are getting the work done lacking having to foot a full time tech . the midwest and northeast are always looking for techs . This is your first undertaking , so keep within mind that even if the posting says " RDMS required " , or even "RDMS preferred" you can and should still apply . Many hospitals will a hire a non-registered tech as long as the arts school was approved, making the graduate" registry eligible" , and they plan on taking the registry within a year of hire.

within are also many irreversible placement companies , with Aureus medical self the largest and most well agreed. They spcialize in undying placement of registered and registry eligible techs in services . The best part ...it's free for the applicant . The Hospital hiring pays the enrolment fees!

For yur first job , it's typical to grasp offeres of even 20 bucks and hour ...counter with 22 to 24 , adopt what you feel comfortable near . You can take a low start take-home pay if the moving or sign on bonus is good . keep hold of in mind that masses hospitals will start low because you're NOT registered , but will offer moving or sign on bonuses , and even foot for your exams , and possibly even a seminar prior to sitting for them. Also , once you've been at a hospital a bit , 6 months or so , and hold improved your exactitude and sacn time ,and have become a valued team-member you can ask for a put on a pedestal . get everything contained by WRITING!! if they offere you 21 to start ,plus a 5,000 sign on bonus , and exam reimbursement with a bump up to 23 or 24 upon passing the exam , sort sure you get that within a contract form . Many many hospitals are agreed for tactics similar to that..you'll never get the bonus , or you'll go by the registry and they make you dawdle until the end of the fiscal year to procure your raise . Hospitals are for profit, in recent times cover yourself.

you're gonna learn more your first year out of university than you ever did in any class. Your first year take you from "tech" to " sonographer" .and yes , in my mind at hand is a difference . A good sonographer know more than just a device , they know technique . They paint with nouns , and their objective is not newly to get the model ...it's to get the best model possible in every situation . It's not settling for what you can " carry by with" , but striving to get the best through instrumentation , long-suffering positioning , and scanning window. Know your machine and it's features inside and out...making the tool work for you , rather than you run the electrical device. It's not just doing the opening , but KNOWING it.

Good luck , and congrats !

Interviewing...?

Question:
When interviewing for a major corporation what is to be expected at the frontage to face? I own already completed online testing as capably as having a receiver interview where i be invited to a face to facade..I was told i didnt stipulation to bring any further info.. so now surrounded by retro i am thinking..wow- whats next?
Any design??
Thanks!!

Answers:
Smart girl. Now's where the fun begin. Although you were told not to bring any secondary information, it would be foolish to show up without your resume/portfolio or any other information you've previously submitted to the company.

What to expect? Depends on the company. What's their corporate culture close to? Are they regimented and conservative (think bear sterns: www.bearsterns.com) or are they more laid hindmost and informal (think starbucks--the corporate office, not your local store!)? You can seize great hints from the companies website, and also from the kind of question you were already asked during your (extensive) pre-screening process.

Remember: they're already interested within you. You've obviously dazzle them enough printed, online and on the phone. Now they want to make sure you can really deliver. Think of it this channel: you want to show them, face to obverse, what you couldn't through your other interactions. so here are my tips:

- show up EARLY (10 minutes at least)
- be curteous to all staff. schmooze the receptionist (there's a difference between schmoozing and sucking up. read the hr montly magazine article on 'deliberate' decencies for clarification)
- dress more professionally than you assume you should
- have your resume on foot (but don't present it unless requested.
- be well versed on the company, their current projects, goal, clients and products/services
- have QUESTIONS prepared. this is critical. turn the table on them.
- they want to see that you're interested in the company, that you've done your research and that your'e ahead of the curve-- ask roughly speaking specifics of your day to time and how it fits into the bigger picture
- keep a cool person in charge
- in your stool, do not fold up. women have a partiality to take up as little space as possible, we cross our legs and tuck our arms to our side. swarm your chair. sit up straight and keep hold of your elbows away from your body
- monitor your pitch (voice) don't allow nerves to make your voice shakey or illustrious pitched. make a conscious challenge to lower the tone of your voice
- maintain eye contact
- don't interrupt, but show you're listen actively

best wishes!
Face to face is a moment ago that. Bring along a copy of the resume sometimes this is a check to see if your organized and you may want to have a couple copies freshly in shield your are interviewed by more than one person, presently a days they have the HR who already know your resume and the supervisor who will now ask you question and you can ask questions to them. They may not hold a copy and you can say here is one for you also. They will see how you conduct yourself. They will immediately ask questions to see how you answer them. They will see how you dress, take home sure you wear a skirt and blazer for a big coporation. They want to see if you'll spill your guts talking too much contribute them exactly what they want to hear nothing more. Do not tender them wages, years of college school zilch that can give them what age you are (sure they can see and guess but you don't hold to tell them) when it comes to wages, merely tell them doesn`t matter what is fair and consequently you can consider it but if you say dignified they will say you won't come for their wage or and it have happened where on earth someone said lower and that's what they got instead of what they really salaried. It's all a testing to see if you "crack" under pressure.
I might shift ahead & bring a portfolio or have one accessible within the car near extra copies of my resume and some copies of a reference sheet within case they ask for it.

You can probably expect to interview near the recruiter and/or hiring manager and/or colleagues and/or ethnic group from other departments depending on the company. They may do a basic interview or a behavioral interview (i.e. bring up to date me about a time when you turned an irate customer around, recount me about a time when you help in a difficult situation at work). They may show you around and introduce you to society, too.

You'll want to ask for business cards of everyone who interviews you. After the interview hand write respectively of them a thank you note and convey it off. People occasionally do this & it will get you notice.
At the 'face-to-face', its your turn to ask questions.
For examples, G00GLE 'job interviews'
and you will find a success of interview techniques.
