I am aplying for a job next to an insurance agency. I think I get the job because we agreed on foot and I recieved study guides for my state exam. But he did mention a credit check. Which worries me, I just get a new motor last year so it not that unpromising. I have never file for bankruptcy, or have any kind of repos or foreclousures. But enjoy been delinquent within the past on credit cards. I own a cell phone bill that went into collection and some medical bills. ANyone know what they are looking for, or how strict they can be?

In response to a couple of the answers here, one piece to keep surrounded by mind is that Background Checks vs. Credit Checks are two different things...
Credit checks are run for two reasons:
1) In bread handling or financial (i.e. accounting) positions, they want to see your overall credit worthyness to assess your potential for fraud, theft, etc... (but still can't kind too harsh of a perspicacity - that's what criminal background checks are for)
2) In financial & insurance institutions, they want to see your overall credit worthyness AND form sure you don't have any outstanding debts to any of their main customers (where you could potentially manipulate your own account).
For employer credit checks, they CAN NOT see your actual credit chalk up. Typically, they will only fall short you on credit based on MAJOR derogatory history, i.e. not singular bankruptcy, but looking to see if you continued to not reimburse your debts even after a bankruptcy.
Most employer who review credit, also know that medical is an area that hits abundantly of people and we tend to disregard.
