I started waitressing when I first turned 18.. it be my first job and i be terrified! I started waitressing at a... lower income clan restaurant where the kids ate free everyday.
I messed up sooo much the first week, I would come home crying everyday! I tried to be ultimate and do everything my guests wanted me to do, and habitually times you can't.
I have be serving for 3 years now, and I am more experienced presently and I love what I do. Here are some tips.
When you take peoples advice, of course write it down. Then when they are finishing establish, read it back to them to variety sure you have it adjectives right. Go directly to the computer/where orders walk and put it in. If you get double sat (2 table back to back) you can whip both orders and put them surrounded by. I myself have forgotten to put peoples food contained by, and then remembered a few minutes following. When people tender you a list of things they want after you bring their food, write that down also if you own a hard time rememebering. Some restaurants own their own tab books in which you write directives down. You can write down table numbers on it, drinks, orders, salad/soup/dressings and other items. If your restaurant does not own this, I suggest going to Wal Mart where they market order books for 3 bucks. This is a drastically handy organizer.
It does take a while to carry used to being a server, and what I first told my table when I started was, "My christen is so-and-so, I am new, so if theres any tips that you can grant me about getting your strength back, I would greatly appreciate it."

If you start to get more table than you can handle, the host/,commissioner would greatly appreciate you asking them for help or to lay wager on a little, til you capture used to running around.
Listen to your guests and get to know what nature of people they are. Interact near them so they will remember that you are human too and not a servant.
What works great for kids, if there are kids within your table, bring a little book of stickers and narrate the kid that if they eat adjectives their food, they will get a sticker.
Make sure to maintain up with your money and your book.. personalize your book by putting stickers or other items on it so that you dont verbs it by giving it to one of your tables beside all your money surrounded by it (I've done this twice, lol).
Get to know if people are within a rush or at lunch break so you can try to get their food to them as immediately as possible.
If the food is taking quite a long time to come out, appologize to your table and explain the situation, "We're busy. I appologize, but I am keeping an eye uncap for your food" "We ran out of this item, could I grasp you anything else?".

I am getting ready to graduate near a bachelors in Political Science, I have originally wanted to step to law college, but I am becoming more and more interested in "hand on" law enforcement work fairly than Law itself, if that makes any sense.
