Careers Employment Questions and Answers

I want a work surrounded by the Amublance Service (UK), please can someone support me?

Question:
Please tell me, I own a degree but no relevant first aid skills but own decided that I would a bit help those than earn a lot of money. I would close to to work as Ambulance Crew (as my eyesight means I can't be a fireman), but would close to to know what the application process is like and what likelihood are there of promotion- what do ambulance crew running out up as?

Also I am enthusuastic but have no medical recommendation.

Thanks!

Answers:
Hi,

Different ambulances services have slightly different entry and training criteria, but qualification erudite you should be fine. Most ambulances services do not expect you to have first aid training or acquaintance prior to joining. Most ambulance services have one or more of these three vehicle of entry.

Some recruit directly to paramedic scope, meaning that you work for them, but also study full time for a paramedic scope. I don't know anyone that has done this, so I'm afraid my experience of this is not very apt.

Some services do what is called direct entry to technician. This is where on earth you start to work for them and they train you immediately to become a technician. The training is generally about 12 weeks. After this initial extent of training (assuming you pass the exams and assessments) you will consequently be a trainee technician. As a trainee you will work on the ambulances alongside experienced members of staff for a year doing further assessments until you qualify.

Other services require you to work on their long-suffering transport services first. Patient transport is basically taking non-critically in poor health people to and from hospital for routine appointments and treatment. Some services approaching you to do this for some months before allowing progression to technician.

This is how I work out things from the ambulance service that I work for, but different services may all do things slightly differently.

Progression inside the ambulance service nationally is immediately great. After technician you can do further training to paramedic and even after this there are further steps you can rob. Clinically you could train further and become a critical care paramedic or a paramedic practitioner or an emergency nurture practitioner. Very basically, these are adjectives paramedics with further skills and diploma to be able to treat a wider compass of things and perform more procedures etc. If you don't want to do this you can opt to go down the organization line inwardly the service.

Hope this helps!
they do look for general public have a point and provide first aid qualification from there own termination, u have to travel through NHS recruitment criteria
A extremity of an ambulance crew with poor eyesight, no first aid skills and no medical certificate, please don't come for me if I need to dial 999 !
Most ambulance services hold different employment standards and requirements (not vastly different but it can make a difference). I work contained by Scotland and really can only comment on within. No medical knowlege is not a problem, but generally way you start as a care assistant. The reimburse and hours are less but you can work up from at hand (its how i started). HOWEVER, applying in undisputed areas can mean you shift straight into emergency ambulance (Technician/Paramedic), e.g. some city centres where on earth the work is tough and demanding and turn over of staff high (tip blend here and apply to move to the country after a couple of years - that's what my hubby did). or some very rural areas where on earth you have to be resident contained by the area to gain the job and in that are obviously smaller quantity applicants (highlands of scotland are like this). Otherwise direct entry to technician tend to be nurses etc.

Try taking an evening class in anatomy - remarkably useful and volunteer next to your local st.john's too.

Talk to your nearest ambulance crews. They are usually a very approachable bunch and eager to talk just about themselves (be prepared for them slagging off the profession, the management, etc - its a past-time for us).

Visit www.scottishambulance.com it have some information about job and pay. Most compensate is standardised across the country now. Im a fully qual paramedic and near shift enhancement and overtime my lb24K is going on for lb30K. Its a great job and you are your own boss most of the time. You do own a lot of responsibility though. Some Services will allow you to do a ride along if you write a really nice request to them (although its getting knotty now because of notes protection).

There are a lot of change to the way the Services run immediately, especially with GPs going on the hot contract, so things are changing. Scotland is have a huge management review and so adjectives opportunities are growing and varying. Too much for me to tell you around now..

In short - plausible to join as a Care Assistant on the non emergency service. Apply for Technician job as they come up. Get Technician - train for the job. Apply for Paramedic training when it comes up. Apply for extended skills as they become available ie Pathfinder/Practitioner/See& Treat. Apply for promotion to Supervisor/Station OFficer/Training Officer as appropriate.

Hope it help.

PS: If you do go for interview - gen up. My hubby is a leader now and it really impress him if someone knows their stuff. I'm not conversation first aid here - we train you that (10 week residential course). Its the political stuff that you need to know. Get hold of company reports, read NHS articles connected to ambulance operation, find out what direction your Service is headed what fresh initiatives they are considering, find out about management standards, orcon, etc.

"branded university" = better jobs/higher remuneration?

Question:
hi,

I would like to ask, is it that the more infamous university graduates get hold of better jobs than the ones tat are not.

For eg, compare a first class honours/second upper class honours graduate from a relatively honourable but "non-branded" university.

.and a bachelor graduate from a very infamous university..

Is it true tat the graduate from tat well-known university will achieve a better job/ higher recompense than the other?

Answers:
Initially, yes.

Fresh graduates from prominent universities (Ivy league, for example), get better job and better salaries than former students from relatively good but "non-branded" university.

However, the gap between the salary narrows as you gain more experience within the industry.

This is because as a fresh graduate, the only piece you have to proposal to a company is an arguably "good" education, so companies reward higher premiums for candidate from better universities.

But if you're armed near several years of experience and are competing against others with similar experience but from better university, you stand a better chance. The type of college matter less because companies helpfulness your real duration experiences more than what you learned surrounded by college.
Qns: Is it true tat the graduate from tat well-known university will acquire a better job/ higher remuneration than the other?

Ans: It will only present you a better chance to landscape a job. The portion about better work and higher take-home pay is called luck.

Amy,

Enroll into a technical training arts school that prepares you for a Cisco Network certification. A CCNE (Cisco certified meet people engr) is probably a best bet for you to enter into n/w admin roles.

Once you enrol, look for a tech support job that involves n/w support and admin and grow from in that into a Jr. N/w admin and eventually to an IT manager.

Random drug trialling at your duty? Union appendage? Be alert.?

Question:
I was terminated from my company after human being given a "random" drug test. I have been sick and missed some days, but did not exceed amount of points allowed by the company. 6 days after the testing i was put on 12 hour workdays- 7more days go by (WORKING 12 HOUR DAYS IN A CORRUGATED BOX PLANT) Safety issue? Then I was terminated for failing-the try-out results WOULD NOT BE RELEASED TO ME-until employer tried to appeal my unemployment AND FAILED. The confederation has not be much help so far. It turns out, the results of this theory test show ALL SIX drugs in my saliva-with one self EXACTLY at the cutoff level. I did not do ANY of them, and this result constituted a NEGATIVE BY THE COMPANY POLICY. Anyone have an experience similar?? With a LABORATORY OR COMPANY, UNION, ETC Please respond or email.

Answers:
You can get false positives, especially near saliva. Request a urine test. Be sure you enjoy your script near you for any prescriptions you are on - these can & will throw off the exam.

I don't think your 12 hour shifts are an issue. My husband have pulled 7/12s for over 3 months straight in his trade -- which is much more insecure than yours. We live by and for shutdowns and OT.

If you Union Steward isn't doing his job (sadly, not adjectives of them put a lot of hard work into it) talk to someone else beside authority (in the trades it's the BA or assistant BA).
I'm confused, there be drugs in your system, but you didn't rob them? That doesn't make much sense.

Your results should hold been fine if you didn't use any drugs, if you did use drugs and spoilt the test, hold it as a lesson learned, not to lift drugs when working at a place that tests for it.

If your tested positive for Rx drugs that be prescribed to you, you should be able to show them the Rx, and be OK.
shift to your own doctor and take another drug check, then tell to a lawyer.
